Springfield Fun Park: Having fun on the lake

General

  • Family-friendly site in the Cornish countryside next to a Fun Park
  • Newquay beach, steam railway and Eden Project within 20 minutes' drive
  • Discount entry to Fun Park with petting zoo, play barn and pony treks

Ah the Cornish countryside… The roll of the surf, the call of the chough bird and the purring of the alpacas…

You’d normally find the latter in Latin America but that’s one of the many special things about at a stay at Springfield Fun Park. Bag a berth on this green site five minutes’ drive from the village of St. Columb Major, and you get discounted access to everything going on next door at the fun park for the duration of your stay (up to seven days).

You might need that long to meet the alpacas Rolo, Morgan and Zeus, greet Bill the goat, bond with the bunnies, pony-ride your way round the park’s quartet of lakes and ancient woodland and hurtle about on the wooden castle, trampolines, slides and go-karts in the play barn… You can also take a puffing, chuffing, tooting train ride round the park, a crowd-pleaser for the smaller visitors but also giving their loving parents a much-needed sit down.

The café serves drinks, hot meals and snacks between 10am and 4.30pm, making it a handy choice for a late breakfast or an early dinner. When the day trippers depart at night, there’s nothing finer than sizzling up an outdoor feast on a barbecue, gazing at the night sky and listening out for the occasional owl (the alpacas turn in early, apparently…).

Absolutely loved staying here. Made the 7 hour journey worth it. Having the fun park as part of our stay made it even better. A bit outdated but the kids don't care, they love it. Cafe was reasonably priced and the food was great. Added bonus of the rides being in with the price so you don't have to pay any extra! I also liked the little park in the middle of the camping field where i felt my son was safe as I could watch him play from my tent. I would definitely come back and recommend to anyone.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike. We all loved our stay.

Liked the open field for the children to play, felt safe and secure no access for strangers to just walk on. The pitch size itself was great size, got my large tent (12man tent) with gazebo and my car all on. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Fun Park was great extra for the children. The campsite was easy access to travel and explore surrounding areas.

    Disliked:

Didn't like the toilets being inside the shower cubical block, this created utter mess with grass being waked into the room and clogging the drainage up. They need to have separate toilets. Or the staff need to clean the toilet/shower blocks more frequently. Stop big parties of people or split them up, I was situated in the middle of large parties of people with multiple tents the first 3 nights was awful being kept awake by music, laughing till 3am.
This is not down to camp site more fellow campers having respect for everyone else.

Springfield fun Park was great. We pitched our tent overlooking the park with a great view of lots of lovely animals. As part of our stay we had free access into the the fun park which both our children insisted we visit everyday! There is a lot of activities to do outside including dodgems, pony rides, a helter-skelter and carousel ride plus an indoor soft play with big slides to entertain the bigger kids and a really reasonably priced cafe for the parents to relax. The toilet blocks provided hot showers which is brilliant when camping and private lockable toilets! Fantastic place, would definitely recommend!

    Disliked:

There was nothing we didn't like at Springfield fun park. The place isn't all modern and brand new but it really is a fun place and our kids absolutely loved it. We didn't get to explore as much of Cornwall as we wanted because our children just wanted to stay there the whole week, so much be good!

Our 7th time in 4 years. Great location between North and South coast - just off the A30. Padstow area 15 mins north, Perranporth area 15 mins West, St Austell area 25 mins South. Decent shower block, with multiple secured rooms and consistent hot water. Large enclosed field for the children to play. As a guest, you get to use the Farm Park as and when you like, with lots of fairground rides and other activities. The play barn has lots of space, good variety of things to do, a decent cafe for breakfast and lunch and ideal to have on your door step if it rains!
The staff are fantastic, very approachable and always there to help you with your holiday.

Local attractions

Alongside forays into the fun park, there’s a fine spread of family activities and attractions close by.

For a quick trip, go to see the owls at close quarters at the Screech Owl Sanctuary, five minutes’ drive away. For further wildlife spotting, it takes around 15 minutes to walk the trail through wide open heathlands and wetlands at the Goss Moor Nature Reserve, home to roe deer, butterflies and shrikes. A similar distance away, see more beasts at the aquarium and zoo in Newquay.

The town’s a magnet for surfers and watersporters of every stamp, so get down to the beach if that’s your bag, or take a short clifftop trek along the South West Coast Path to the quieter Whipsiderry beach for rockpooling and cave exploring.

Up for more train time? Take the Lappa Valley Steam Railway (15 minutes) for whistling whistlestop rides through the countryside or walk and bike along the now-repurposed railway line of the Camel Trail, 18 miles of level paths and cracking views beginning 20 minutes away in Padstow.

Also 20 minutes away, and drawing visitors from all over, is the Eden Project, vast biodomes encasing an indoor rainforest; the elegant blooms of the Lost Gardens of Heligan are just over half an hour away.
