Power optional grass tent or campervan site

Liked Geographical location is good. Pitch is flat.
There's WiFi but it was dripping a lot.

Disliked The facilities were not as advertised and fell far below basic hygiene and safety standards. While the listing stated there were toilets and showers, it did not disclose that:

Showers are communal football changing room–style, not individual cubicles. Guests must undress in communal areas and walk naked to showers separated only by mouldy curtains. In the men’s showers, you must cross through other guests’ cubicles, meaning minimal privacy. In the women’s facilities, the main door opens directly to the outside washing-up area, exposing guests, and the changing room itself forces you to walk naked to reach the showers. During my stay, a male maintenance worker was inside the women’s changing/shower area while female guests were present.

Toilets were inadequate. In the clubhouse changing rooms, there was only one ladies’ cubicle (the other was a boiler), while the men’s side had two cubicles plus one extra. A second set of two ladies’ toilets was located elsewhere. The cubicle locks were faulty: a child was able to open the door while I was inside, leaving me exposed.

Cleanliness was unacceptable, with mouldy shower curtains and unkept facilities. The showers themselves were unsafe: no temperature regulation, only push-button control. When I used one at 1 am, the water was scalding hot, peeling skin off my body. My partner also used them and came out looking like a cooked lobster.

The onsite lady was polite but dismissive. When I raised concerns, she said, “you booked through Pitchup, it says what they are,” and refused a refund. This was not a matter of preference, but unsafe, unhygienic, and misrepresented facilities.

I initially blamed myself for not reading the listing properly, but nowhere did it state that you must share showers and walk naked around others. My mother, recently diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s, came with me to Cornwall for memories. This trip was meant to be special — and the experience at this campsite ruined part of it.

Oh I nearly forgot the church! The church which will keep you awake every night. It doesn't stop ringing the bells. On 1st night it was going on for ages then BING BANG every hour. Next 2 nights it was only raining every hour since like 10 pm to the morning! like noone has a watch nowadays in this middle ages 👀 so help me Jebus.

From the manager: Sylwia, thanks for your comments.
We note that you liked the large flat grass pitches and geographical location but were disappointed with the site facilities.
It is clearly outlined in our various websites that the campsite facilities are shared with the football club, a fact that many of our camping visitors happily accept. However, we are well aware that the facilities require updating and we hope that the brand new tarmaced access road now provides the opportunity for the management to improve both the camping and club facilities going forwards.
We apologise that the boiler had to be fixed whilst you were on site but we didn’t want to leave campers with cold or no showers during a busy August period.
As for the church bells, there’s very little that we can do about that. Actually many of our visitors really enjoy the quintessential English nature of our location - the nearby pubs, Mousehole harbour, St Michael’s Mount, the cricket matches and, indeed, the church bells. But, of course, we understand that everyone has different expectations.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked The location of the campground was good for visiting Mousehole on foot. The pub in Paul was also very close to the campground. The managers were friendly and informative and kept the actual pitches clean and tidy.

Disliked Shower and toilet facilities were inadequate and dated. The $35 per night price was too much for camping there, particularly given the lack of good facilities. Similar campsites attached to sports clubs that we have stayed at, are typically around $22 to $25 per night. This site is not good value for money unfortunately.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked Can't fault the hardstanding pitch we had. Easy to set up and nice and flat. The on-site management was most welcoming. The whole site was well kept and very quiet over night. I liked the fact it was close to a football and cricket pitch. Wi-Fi was good. The walk into Mousehole wasn't too far. We had food at the Kings Arms in Paul itself, which was good. Would recommend booking as it does get busy. Some would say the walk to the showers and toilets is quite far; however these are the clubhouse to the football ground. It didn't bother us because it was well lit and easy to get to. There was a closer by toilet if needed and a water point. There was also an Elsen waste disposal facility and bins were plentiful and kept empty. The facilities were clean and well kept.

Liked It so beautiful town and campsite where we were and so lovely and friendly of members of mousehole camping and while we were there they a game of cricket and football that's nice to watched the game as well. Thank you for lovely place.

Disliked Toilet for women not really convenient that one thing I didn't like , sorry!

It is a unique part of our site that cricket and football matches may be on during your visit and we’re glad that you enjoyed the matches too.

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked The layout of the pitches was lovely.
Very friendly welcome from Sue .
Showers and toilet were just about adequate.

Disliked Although site was quoted as only a 15 minute walk to Mousehole it was a very steep one, too far for us in our 70s to walk back up. Phoned two taxi companies who were not available so were unable to visit the lovely town until the next day.
Washing up station too far from pitches to be worthwhile.

Thank you for your review.
We’re glad that you liked the layout of the pitches and the friendly welcome and hospitality from Sue.
The walk to Mousehole is via a steep hill which is a little challenging and it’s a shame that you had a CV problem organising taxis as there are a number of taxi firms in Penzance.
As for our showers, toilets and washing up area, we agree with you that the short walk to the clubhouse is not ideal. Fortunately the club has now completed its new tarmaced access road which will now provide a great opportunity for the club to improve the whole site going forwards.
Thanks again for your comments and suggestions which are welcomed,

Thank you for your review.
We note that you enjoyed our peaceful location but wondered how it would be during cricket and football matches. The cricket actually adds to our rural, quiet nature along with the church bells, seagulls, swallows and campfires!! For football matches campers get in free and can enjoy a pint and a pasty as well as good football on our fantastic pitch.
It is unusual and certainly a bit unique for a campsite but, in many ways it adds to the charm and hopefully adds to the camping experience.
Come back for a match and support the high flying Mousehole Seagulls!!

Powered concrete and grass motorhome site

Liked Pitch as even and well positioned with a small area of grass. The actual site was clean and well kept. Logs and fire pits on offer for a small charge for the RNLI which was nice. Lady in charge was very nice and friendly.

Disliked Portaloo on site was dreadful. Couldn’t use it. Showers and toilets a long walk away over an adjoining football pitch. Although we were made aware they were not right on site the distance was ambiguous in the booking information. The facilities on offer were that of the football ground and were closed to campers on match days. Luckily this didnt affect us but wouldn’t have been ideal. The facilities themselves were not really of a high standard and the communal showers with only a rather old looking shower curtain between them were really not very user friendly. We paid less to stay at other sites on our trip with fantastic facilities so I think until the facilities can be improved a price review wouldn’t be amiss. As things are we wouldn’t stay again.

Local attractions

Fans of BBC costume drama Poldark will find plenty to keep them occupied around here, with many names and places to recognise: Godolphin House, the mines at Botallack and Levant, and Porthcurno beach (Nampara Cove) are all within half an hour of Mousehole Camping and all worth a visit. Of course, if your passions lie less in TV drama and more in the arts, you won’t be let down – catching a show at the Minack Theatre, an open-air theatre carved into the cliffs above Porthcurno, is an absolute must. You can’t very well make a trip to this part of Cornwall and not visit the most westerly point of mainland England… Land’s End is a 25-minute drive from Mousehole Camping. Be sure to get a photo with the famed sign, and stop for a Cornish cream tea before you leave. Anyone drawn to the ocean will have plenty to do too: the top-notch surfing beach at Sennen is 20 minutes away, boat trips out to the Scilly Isles leave Penzance regularly, and the stunning St Michael’s Mount is a short walk along a causeway or an even shorter boat journey from the coast.
