General

  • Environmentally-friendly site in the Luxulyan Valley
  • A mile from the Eden Project
  • Workshops, wildlife walk and communal firepit

Acorn Camping and Glamping in Cornwall’s Luxulyan Valley is an artfully environmentally-friendly site with workshops to pique your interest – and it's only a mile from environmentally excellent days at the famed Eden Project too.

Budding scholars, get ready to blossom. You could get back to basics by learning sculpture carving or indulge your inner clown by picking up some circus skills, including aerial workshops in the campsite's own woodland...

Kids can scavenge about on a woodland hunt and learn how to make dens and build fires, nosy at the local wildlife and build their own mini campsite for the valley’s insect inhabitants – and fiction fans of all ages can listen enthralled to the storyteller who visits in summer.

The Luxulyan Valley is a World Heritage Site and has an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Acorn Camping and Glamping at its heart near Par: expect seven acres of meadows and woodland, a private woodland walk, an abundance of wildlife and a network of waterside walks to investigate, all centrally placed to some of Cornwall’s most famed attractions – as mentioned, the Eden Project is just a mile away and the beaches of Par Sands and Polkerris within a few miles.

As a tiny back to basics site, it’s Par for the course that Acorn allows campfires: blocks are available to stand barbecues on and the communal firepit takes care of campsite cooking (pick up some logs from the site owners). Facilities include four toilets, three hot water showers, two hot water washrooms and a washing-up area with cold water. Only logs are sold on site, but a shop and a pub are a mile and a half away.

Pitches are on a gently sloping three-quarters of an acre: park at the site entrance and offload your gear on the trolleys provided to get to your pitch.

Sorry, but because of the local wildlife, Acorn Camping and Glamping can’t accept dogs.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Facilities/activities including woodland activities & workshops are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Lack of water in the showers, you were lucky if you could get any hot or even a dribble if there was more than one on at a time. No lights in the loos, making a night time visit rather interesting. Ramshackle washing up area and none of the facilities were massively clean. Focus is definitely not on the camping side of this site. Overpriced considering lack of adequate facilities. I can imagine when busy parking to be a nightmare as insufficient parking available for the size of the site. Would not return.

The couple running the place were very pleasant and took the time to give us their local knowledge of the St Austell area.
The pods and huts are a great show of creativity, and the woodland setting is a joy to explore.
There are plenty of lovely places to see in the local area.

Lovely little camping set up and he was very welcoming when we eventually knew what to do. Was very peaceful and had eveything that you could possibly need.

    Disliked:

When we areived there wasn’t anything telling us what to do and when we was there for a few days people were welcomed straight away. They even were putting sign posts up for the arriving People knew where to camp up, we didn’t even get that, we was told to just “go where ever”.
As you would understand as it’s outside but the toilets and showered weren’t very nice at all.

Directions

From the A390 in St Blazey take the road opposite the Gulf petrol station New Road leading to Prideaux Road (we are 1.5 miles from this point). Take the next right signposted Prideaux. Go through the hamlet and along the width restriction road; 400m down the hill pull into field entrance on the right where you will see a small Acorn sign on a rock.

However if you're coming from the A30, from the A30 follow the signs to The Eden Project. At the Eden Project roundabout, take a left, next right, next left and left again, and we're 400m as above.

Local attractions

Cornwall has hundreds of miles’ worth of walking and cycling trails, but if your head’s spinning at the choices ahead start off on the pretty pilgrims’ trail of the Saints Way, only five minutes’ walk from Acorn and meandering across Cornwall from Fowey in the south to Padstow in the north (the Eden Project is on the route too).

It’s a belter of a tourist trip even if you only do a few of its 27 miles: parts of it are ancient paths linking hill forts, holy wells and old churches, and you’ll be able to scramble through a variety of habitats such as ancient fields, moors, valleys and woodlands.

Take to two wheels to cover this part of Cornwall’s cycle trails such as the Camel Trail from Padstow or one of the Clay Trails; a country road 2.5 mile bike trip runs from Luxulyan railway station to the Eden Project too.

An even gentler trip is the cycle route from the campsite to Luxulyan village; from here you can take the Atlantic Coast Line trains that runs from Par to Newquay for valley sightseeing.

Five minutes in the car brings you to Cornwall’s south coast – the nearest beach to your berth is three miles away but it won’t take too long in the car to reach other acclaimed beaches, seaside towns and fishing villages of the south like Fowey, medieval Pentewan and Charlestown with its shipwreck centre.

Fish, rockpool, surf or hide yourself away among the beaches and secluded coves all around here; go shark-spotting at Looe, dolphin and seal spotting from Mevagissey, or take the kids to one of the many family attractions around the coast like the Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary at Par and sea safaris further along the coast at Falmouth.

National Trust houses and gardens are plentiful in Cornwall too: Falmouth’s Trebah Gardens and its kids' trails should be a hit for all ages, and one of the very-must-sees in Cornwall is St Austell’s Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Must see
