Liked We have just returned from an amazing stay at the old stables. The hosts were fantastic, very friendly and helpful, we arrived a little early but were still able to pitch up after contacting the hosts ahead of our arrival. I really like that the hosts have a no nonsense approach, it’s simple - just don’t be an idiot. Very child friendly site, our kids loved it, lots of families visiting. Location is amazing, short drive to local beaches & Hayle village centre with lots going on. On site facilities always immaculately clean and hygienic. Lots of storage space in freezers for ice block rotation. Really loved the food bank donation box for non perishable items, we were able to leave food items behind knowing that they wouldn’t go to waste. Waves food van was excellent, the staff in there were absolutely wonderful people, so lovely to chat with them. Amazing ice cream from Sayde’s, if you see this ice cream van - just run, it’s a long wait but it’s so worth it & what a lovely genuine guy who was a delight to chat with. We really loved our trip here, unfortunately we had to cut it short a night early due to bad weather, but we would definitely love to return again. We highly recommend renting a fire pit on site, this is a great idea & saves a lot of room in the car. We also really loved Puss Puss, the friendly little campsite cat! Thanks Jayne & Mike, what a gem of a site you have.

Disliked Cars driving too fast across the field at times, however my husband did hear Mike giving someone a warning after this. Just be respectful to the site and other around you and you won’t have a problem

Unpowered grass site

Liked Great place to stay - one of the more organised ones on my travels around Cornwall with a designated location to pop the tent box(number 3) Made a change from the frustrating driving around the field looking for the perfect level view! Good hot clean services for toilet showers etc
Always nice to have the option of a coffee / bacon roll on site in the morning which they do 10/10 would stay again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and found the site organised. It’s great that you found the pitches level and the facilities hot and clean.

I will pass on your compliments to the WAVES van.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Really liked this campsite. It was quiet, everyone was respectful. The little food hut was lovely if we felt like we didn’t want to bbq and the food was delicious! There are homemade cakes although we didn’t have chance to try any, they looked yummy. The showers and toilets were cleaned daily and felt like a luxury! The bats on an evening were a great watch (we don’t get horseshoes north)🦇

Local attractions

The beaches along this stretch of Cornwall’s coast are top spots for watersports, nature walks and the simple pleasures of splashing in the sea. Walk the coast path up to the more secluded sands at Godrevy (a 10-minute drive), then onwards to spot seals from Godrevy Point. For days away from the waves, there’s go-karting to be had at Hayle as well as animal encounters and indoor play at the Paradise Park and Jungle Barn. For something more artistic, make for St Ives (20 minutes) for a wander round the Tate Gallery and the studio of sculptor Barbara Hepworth or go underground on a walk through Cornwall’s industrial history at the Geevor Tin Mine (half an hour). Penzance is your place for boat trips: fishing, seal spotting and dolphin watching as well as the daily ferries to the Scilly Isles (you can take the helicopter for a quicker trip). Day trips to this subtropical island group are very doable, with many visitors hiring bikes to explore the beaches or find spots to go snorkelling with the friendly grey seals. For a closer island experience, take a 20-minute drive to Marazion then walk the cobbled causeway to St Michael’s Mount. It might involve a boat ride at certain times of day, so check ahead, but however you arrive you’ll find a treat on this island with its medieval chapel and castle, winding paths and nature-filled gardens.
