  • Coastal park set in over 50 acres of grounds
  • A short drive from the surf schools and beach at Bude
  • Free heated pool, free wifi, clubhouse, kids' club and bar
Free! The price of zilch is what you’ll pay to keep the kids happy at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park a few miles from Bude, which is bound to result in wide-mouthed grins for all concerned... This large and lively family park has kids’ clubs run by the cunning Foxy, free evening entertainment by the Stripey Coats, crazy golf to go loopy at and an indoor heated pool, which are also…free. As is the wifi in the clubhouse. Huzzah. Widemouth Bay Caravan Park’s location is also pretty smilesome: on a hilltop overlooking the Cornish countryside and the fab Widemouth Bay with its three miles of sand. There are over 50 acres to lose yourself in around the park and pretend you never have to go home, with the takeaway, well-stocked shop and tasty meals at the bar keeping you sorted for nosh and a launderette looking after the essentials. Looking for yet more things to do on site? Challenge the kids on the amusements or show them how to hustle on the pool table – letting them beat you should result in even more wide smiles…

Powered grass tent site (large)

Liked: Big pitches with lots of facilities and great attraction for families with activities for kids. Short walk to the beach and lots of walking paths around.

Disliked: Toilets didn't flush very well. Had to book a bigger pitch even though it wasn't fully booked.

Liked: Some sea views, lovely woodland walk for dogs

Disliked: Sloping pitches, loud guests at 1:30am, pool murky and showers need updating. Expensive and dated compared to other sites

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. Unfortunately due to the location of Widemouth there is very little that can be done to level out the pitches, this is why we felt it was important to list the park on Pitch Up as situated in a hilly location. We are sorry to hear you would not stay with us again. Best wishes, John Fowler Holidays

Liked: We liked the facilities the camp site had to offer, swimming pool, mini golf, entertainment for the children at night. We went as a family with my 1yr old and 5yr old. There was plenty to do and only a short drive away from Bude which was lovely! The facilities were clean, nice toilets/shower blocks.

Disliked: The camp site was having issues with wasp nests! This was an absolute nightmare! Especially with my one year old daughter. You couldn’t sit down for more than 2 minutes without being swarmed by wasps! At times it felt like we were on a bush tucker trial! The last night we were there, a family close by were having what I can only describe as a domestic argument. Although not the campsites fault and their security did turn up.. it kept us and our children awake majority of the night! The campsite is also on a hill so everything seemed to roll in the tent (tea’s, coffees, drinks, plates.. there were a lot of spillages!! It’s a shame because the views are lovely from the pitches just not very practical! Your not allowed any toilet tents on the site and some of the pitches are quite a far walk (especially a night with children) to the toilet block which is a shame.

2 Bedroom Gold Caravan 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: swimming pool was good. Wis the caravan was slightly bigger. Wish had better evening entertainment than Karaoke and disco.

Disliked: Neighbours next to our Caravan were playing loud music, both Saturday and Sunday until 12am, we did request to reduce the volume , they didn't care. I wish there are some rules set up and make sure the people keep the noise level low and do not play music using loud speakers, developed headache and was hard to sleep.

Liked: The entertainment was fab, the kids absolutely loved it. The food in the restaurant was nice too and reasonably priced. The views from the campsite were lovely and the showers and toilets were clean, worked well and seem well maintained. Only a 15/20 minute walk to the gorgeous beaches

Disliked: The pool was very cold, couldn't see anywhere for washing up dishes etc. Pitches are very sloped so we did keep rolling around the room but it did leave an element of surprise on where you'd wake up in the morning 😅

Powered grass tent site

Liked: Friendly warden who was really helpful Great location for walking to the beach

Disliked: The pitches were on top of the hill and sloped. Very exposed. The one shower block was old and tired. The newer one really needed a good scrub and bleach at the bottom of the panels. The toilets were kept clean and tidy all the time, just needed a deep clean. For camping on an unmarked grass sloping pitch it was really expensive.

Local attractions

Widemouth Bay is where you’ll find the surf: if you’re new to launching yourself happily into the waves there are surf and bodyboarding schools dotted all around here and Bude, and Newquay is within 50 minutes' drive. Bude less than 10 minutes by car has a couple of excellent beaches: Summerleaze, to have a dip in the sea pool at the bottom of the cliffs and to bag a beach hut for hire so you can pretend for one fleeting afternoon that it’s your very own, and Crooklets, which you can reach by a short stroll from Summerleaze Down. Both beaches, and the sea pool at Summerleaze, are lifeguarded. The staff at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park recommends a car to see the best of Cornwall, but you won’t have very far to drive to reach most of the main hotspots: the Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Tintagel, legendary home of King Arthur and Merlin, is just along the coast.
