  • Coastal park set in over 50 acres of grounds
  • A short drive from the surf schools and beach at Bude
  • Free heated pool, free wifi, clubhouse, kids' club and bar
Free! The price of zilch is what you’ll pay to keep the kids happy at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park a few miles from Bude, which is bound to result in wide-mouthed grins for all concerned... This large and lively family park has kids’ clubs run by the cunning Foxy, free evening entertainment by the Stripey Coats, crazy golf to go loopy at and an indoor heated pool, which are also…free. As is the wifi in the clubhouse. Huzzah. Widemouth Bay Caravan Park’s location is also pretty smilesome: on a hilltop overlooking the Cornish countryside and the fab Widemouth Bay with its three miles of sand. There are over 50 acres to lose yourself in around the park and pretend you never have to go home, with the takeaway, well-stocked shop and tasty meals at the bar keeping you sorted for nosh and a launderette looking after the essentials. Looking for yet more things to do on site? Challenge the kids on the amusements or show them how to hustle on the pool table – letting them beat you should result in even more wide smiles…

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The value for money is terrific. Clean hot showers, bar with entertainment for the kids and very close to widemouth beach and bude. Free heated indoor pool. Lovely staff around too.

Disliked: Tent pitches were all on a slope and 10am check out time for a tent is super early. Beaches are walkable but there is a short stretch of narrow country lane to get to the footpath

Liked: Clean and accessible facilities

Disliked: Mallard field, that we were assigned to was so unlevelled, that we could not safely put plates on the table. I think just because we've chosen cheapest option (non-electric grass pitch) we were treated lesser than...

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked: Everything was great apart from a couple of minor points listed under dislikes section below. They are minor points though as on the whole the site is beautiful and certainly well looked after.

Disliked: Check-in is slightly poor - I stopped at main reception and was told to move on to the touring reception instead. I checked at the touring reception but then found that I was on a touring field that I had already gone past to get to the reception, this meant that I had to go all the way through the sites one way system back to the main reception where I had started, turn round and go back to the correct field. It is also a little annoying that the field I was on has no fresh water or waste emptying points, they are located on another field. I was told that this is because I was on an overflow field, I did find this a little strange as I had booked several months prior to going.

Local attractions

Widemouth Bay is where you’ll find the surf: if you’re new to launching yourself happily into the waves there are surf and bodyboarding schools dotted all around here and Bude, and Newquay is within 50 minutes' drive. Bude less than 10 minutes by car has a couple of excellent beaches: Summerleaze, to have a dip in the sea pool at the bottom of the cliffs and to bag a beach hut for hire so you can pretend for one fleeting afternoon that it’s your very own, and Crooklets, which you can reach by a short stroll from Summerleaze Down. Both beaches, and the sea pool at Summerleaze, are lifeguarded. The staff at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park recommends a car to see the best of Cornwall, but you won’t have very far to drive to reach most of the main hotspots: the Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Tintagel, legendary home of King Arthur and Merlin, is just along the coast.
