  • Family-friendly glampsite overlooking Ardingly Reservoir, West Sussex
  • Wakehurst Place 15 minutes’ drive; British Wildlife Centre 20 minutes
  • Luxurious accommodation with kitchens and spacious living areas
The mantra at Edmunds Farm, five minutes’ drive from rural Balcombe in West Sussex? To relax and unwind in comfort while surrounded by nature – and that you can easily accomplish, as each glamping unit – and there are only a handful – is kitted out to the very highest spec and has spectacular views over Ardingly Reservoir. Accommodation is in cleverly restored vehicles, all with spacious living and dining areas plus well-equipped kitchenettes. Bespoke furniture and lots of little touches like plants and cosy scatter cushions pretty things up, and there are 42-inch TVs for any quiet downtime. Woodburning stoves take care of any chillier days, and when the weather’s warm, you can move outside to private picnic areas with outdoor seating, spark up the barbecue, grab a glass of something chilled and take in the reservoir views. Everybody gets a guidebook giving inspiration about what to see, plus handwritten itineraries on stuff that’s unusual to do on West Sussex breaks. At 15 minutes’ drive from all the handy shops and restaurants of Haywards Heath, Edmunds Farm also has easy access to loads of local hiking and cycling trails, as well as kayaking, paddleboarding or sailing on the reservoir straight from the pitches. There are parking spaces near the pitches, but if you’d rather leave the car at home, Balcombe railway station (25 minutes’ walk) has services to Brighton and London Bridge.

Lakeview bell tent

Liked: The location makes this place. To be by the water is good for the soul. The tent we stayed in was very pretty and cosy and my children absolutely loved it. We spent most the time enjoying the view and spending time together. My children especially liked seeing two small deer and all the other wildlife.
