Peaceful site in the sussex weald

  • Quiet family-friendly site on a smallholding in the High Weald
  • Ardingly Reservoir 15 minutes’ drive; Brighton half an hour
  • Firepits, communal kitchen and picnic benches; freshly laid eggs sold
Looking for a site where you can take long strolls with your dog and maybe let the kids interact with farmyard animals? Deaks Acres, a five-minute drive from the West Sussex village of Cuckfield, might just be the place for you. Just on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this family-friendly site is part of a smallholding with goats, horses and geese, so there’s always a furry (or feathered) creature nearby for your kids to pet or help feed. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead. Each pitch has its own firepit for cosy campfire evenings; if you’re in the mood for making new friends, there's also an area around a large bonfire for guests to gather and socialise. For a fabulous breakfast you surely can't beat scrambled eggs made with eggs from the resident hens. The communal field kitchen is the place to cook these – it's also got a barbecue and a washing up area. For other provisions, the petrol station just across the roundabout on the A272 (10 minutes’ walk) has a small shop, and Haywards Heath (five minutes’ drive) has several supermarkets. Of course, you might opt for a cooked meal from a traditional pub, of which there are several in Cuckfield. There are heaps of walks and bridleways to explore directly from the site, or you can drive to Ardingly Reservoir (15 minutes) for a waterside trail, an activity centre with paddleboards and kayaks, and a dog park you can hire by the half-hour to let your canine buddy run free. For a day at the beach, Brighton is a half hour’s drive away.

What customers say

A tidy, chill farm campsite with ace, clean facilities (showers, kitchen). Spacious spots have fire pits and tables. Friendly owners, lots of animals. Great for families, kids can learn about farm life. Some road noise and tricky directions noted.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked I genuinely had a great weekend!
When we first got there we saw the long grass and thought, oh no!! BUT... I actually love the idea of the long grass between each pitch space. Each pitch space had a picnic table, and a fire pit ready to use. You could pitch multiple tents per pitch, and the toilet/shower space was well kept, and very easy to use.
The owner is lovely, and popped by after we got settled, and had our tents sorted.
The outside kitchen was handy, and the bags of wood were reasonably priced.
The play space was well kept, and full of outdoor games.

Disliked Not a major dislike, but the toilet lights aren't very bright, so used my phone torch, when going for a nighttime wee.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked I loved that it only had 10 pitches which meant it wasn't too crowded.
Each pitch was easily identifiable by means of a picnic bench and fire pit/grill.
There were bags of logs available for a reasonable fee and frwsh eggs from the farms' chickens.
An area for washing up is provided as well as the cleanest toilet/shower block I've seen on a campsite. There's also drinking water available on site.
It's dark (other than the fire pits), so the night sky had little or no light pollution.

It's easy to find, with little signposts guiding you once off the main roads.

Disliked There's nothing to dislike.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked This is an excellent campsite. Small so it won't ever be crowded, open enough for children to run around. The pitch sizes are ideal and come with a bench and firepit, and you can also park your call next to your pitch.

The open kitchen area is great to use.

The toilets were nice, and the showers looked nice too.

A farm is next to the camp field with animals, and there is also a swing and footballs and nets for the kids, which was great.

Karen was friendly and helpful when speaking with her.

Overall, a nice campsite that I shall use again.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked We loved this campsite and thought that it was a perfect and idilic country campsite. It had the cleanest toilets and showers that we’ve ever known a site to have. We loved that you could go into the animal cages and the owner was so friendly and accommodating. Every pitch had a fire pit and picnic bench that was a nice touch. Each pitch was spread out and the campsite on the whole was very spacious and peaceful. It was the perfect getaway and you felt safe to let your children play on the different equipment. There was a trampoline, swing, slide and different games like connect 4, giant Jenga, badminton and football. We will definitely be back. It was a 10 minute drive to Ardingly Reservoir where we did water sports and recommend that aswell.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Absolutely EVERYTHING.
I don’t know what I expected but this was a little piece of heaven.
We wanted off grid and simple, this delivered way beyond. The basic necessities are there (clean toilets, hot showers, activities for the kids, a stove, sink, fire pits, bbq, logs). We didn’t want electric and mod cons. We wanted back to nature with basic essentials and feel we lucked out more than!

Disliked Nothing. Anyone that complains about this place, got the wrong place!

Liked We are back here 3rd year now. Our children (girls) love it. They go to play with animals or swing, as soon as they open the eyes. They can also burn their energy there after overdosing on smores jumping on the trampoline.
We will be back next year too.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked It's such a lovely place to stay. Karen is so helpful and always so bubbly! The dogs are really lovely, too. always nice to see them when they pop over to the tent. The added extra of the benches and fire pits by the pitches is a lovely touch and helps when sitting eating food. This is our second visit, and we can't fault the place. The toilets and shower facilities are always topped up and kept clean and tidy. The washing up area is really nice too with the extra bonus of the gas stove too to heat up water! You can visit the animals too what's really nice and you can even get in with the pigs and say hello.
Definitely will be going again soon! 😁

Liked Excellent pop-up campsite. Toilets and showers are clean, there's plenty of space around the pitches, and the kitchen facilities are great. More in the games area than expected, including a big swing, badminton, swing ball, giant connect four and a small football goal. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and let the kids help out feeding the animals.
