  • A quarter of an hour’s drive from Chichester; 20 minutes to the coast
  • Family-friendly, with open farm, maze, miniature golf and playgrounds
Aldingbourne Trust is an award-winning local charity helping people with learning disabilities and autism to live independent lives. It also runs this site on the southern fringes of South Downs National Park, where guests are welcome to come and experience a wide range of family-friendly facilities. Without even leaving base, guests at Aldingbourne Trust have access to an open farm, a maze, woodland walks, miniature golf, an area for sand and water play, and mini rides on tractors. There are also outdoor playgrounds and an indoor soft-play area, plus singing and dancing classes and seasonal events. Overnight guests are encouraged to use any of the above from 2pm on the day of arrival right up until they’re ready to leave. Aldingbourne Trust also has a licensed café with an outdoor seating area. You are allowed to consume alcohol and smoke (responsibly) within your own pitch, but please note that alcohol and smoking are not allowed on the rest of the site. The site is on the edge of the small village of Norton, about a quarter of an hour’s drive from Chichester, where there’s an abundance of attractions, shops and places to eat. The West Sussex coast is also easy to reach: Bognor Regis is about 20 minutes away by road.

Liked: Lovely safe small-ish camping field each pitch marked out and electric hook up and cable all provided. Free wifi and access to all onsite facilities. Was great once public home and we had the run of the place. Staff all really friendly and helpful.

Disliked: No camp shop just a very expensive gift shop so lots of trips out for essentials. Could do with something on-site for smaller bits such as ketchup, burgers, toiletries etc. Toilets involved a long walk round the soft play building used by public and when I was late getting reading one morning was a bit embarrassing brushing teeth and washing in front of non campers who all thought I was just odd. Could do with a campers only porta-loo cabin closer to the pitches. Slightly pricey in comparison to other sites but some nice facilities. My kids were a little too old for lots of the on-site activities though so we tended to go out still a lot. Woodland walk is lovely but needs some decent swings!

Liked: Our fourth summer here and, as always, we loved the amount of things for the kids to do. So much is included in the price (maze, woodland walk&play, soft play, crazy golf, mini ride on tractors to name a few!) the kids also loved the bounce about event on our last day which was also included. As adults we love that the kids are never bored, plus the electric hook up and free WiFi! Colin was very helpful with suggestions places in the local area to visit and always made sure we were ok and settled. Every time we visit there have been new areas, facilities or attractions added and it's great to see how much Aldingbourne Country Centre is developing every year. We're looking forward to seeing what is different next year already! This year it was great to have more sinks for washing up and improved shower facilities! There is a shared freezer for the campsite and the pitches are a good size. When we visited, there were only two other pitches so it wasn't noisy at all and we all enjoyed chatting and toasting marshmallows around the firepit (included so you don't need to bring your own!) together :) The kids also made friends and loved playing together! On our last day we also enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the café (with a fantastic slide for the kids to enjoy) before heading to the small onsite farm. Guineapig snuggling was a highlight for us all! We can't wait to return next summer!

Liked: This camp site is a little gem. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The camping field and all the facilities are very well kept. It’s a smaller camp but this was absolutely perfect for my 4 year old as he could play with the other children in the camp safely. There’s plenty to do in the day, our favourite was the goats which you can go in and pet. The soft play and Lego bricks area was brilliant for my son and a bit hit for all the kids. You can use most of the play equipment after hours too. Log burners are provided if you want a cozy night by the fire. Showers are nice and hot. We will definitely be returning. 10/10

Disliked: The only issue I’d say is that if you’re not planning on taking a toilet with you then a good torch is needed to make your way to the toilet block as it’s very dark at night. This is clearly stated on the website so no fault of theirs but just in case you missed that part.

Local attractions

Dating from the early 17th century, Goodwood House (10 minutes’ drive) is distinctive for its four round turrets topped by cupolas. Its renowned art collection includes landscapes by Venetian artist Canaletto. Also on site is Goodwood Motor Circuit, which holds events such as the Festival of Speed (July) and the vintage-style Goodwood Revival (September). After checking out the colourful window by Marc Chagall in medieval Chichester Cathedral (15 minutes), take a relaxing stroll through Bishop’s Palace Garden, or head to the Pallant House Gallery, which has a cracking collection of contemporary British art, with works from the likes of Barbara Hepworth and Rachel Whiteread. Devour fish and chips on the pebbly beach at Bognor Regis (20 minutes), stroll up and down the pier or along the promenade, which is dotted with child-friendly activities, from climbing inflatable structures to miniature golf. And if you can’t get enough of miniature golf, there’s another course in leafy Hotham Park, where you can also scoot around on a miniature railway.
