Adsdean Avenue Camping
A limited number of pitches on a field with plenty of space
Camping field set in woodland
The campsite from above

  • Off-grid woodland camping on the edge of Funtington in West Sussex
  • South Downs National Park five minutes’ drive; Chichester 15 minutes
  • Peaceful pop-up site with spacious pitches; pub five minutes’ drive
After a dollop of peace and quiet along with an almost wild camping adventure on the edge of the South Downs? Adsdean Avenue Camping, five minutes’ drive from the country village of Funtington, is where you need to be. Set in woodlands, the vast pop-up camping field has a limited number of pitches so everybody is nicely spread out and private. The meadow is surrounded by lush farmland and mature trees, and your rural soundtrack will be birdsong and the rustling of leaves. The simplicity of the setup (no electricity, no wifi, no showers) gives you all a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, whether you’re looking to explore the walking – bring any family dogs to join your expeditions – and cycling trails nearby, enjoy family evenings cuddled up around the campfire, or go stargazing under the clear night sky. Essential amenities include water available across the site and basic toilets. Barbecues are allowed on the pitches, but you’ll need to bring your own equipment from home. If you’re not into alfresco cooking, luckily there’s a pub serving decent grub in Funtington.

What customers say

Great secluded spot for a peaceful, back-to-basics escape. Spacious pitches, clean portaloos, lots of wildlife. Owner Josh is a legend! Some bumpy ground & no showers, but most want to come back.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Size of site was nice, proximity to Chichester and local pub was a super bonus. Nice and quiet, without heading into the Styx. Ideal for short camping stints.

Disliked Field itself was very rough in places. not ideal for the under 5’s running about etc. but not exactly the end of the world. Signposting to site could have been better.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Really nice campsite, very calming. A good home base for us while we went to victorious festival. Was so lovely to Let our 3 year old be able to run freely as opposed to traditional campsites where we’re always wary of other tents nearby or cars. Toilets were porta potty’s but were cleaned and were spacious. Clean drinking water and the farm shop was super close which was nice

Disliked Nothing

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Loved the quietness, we were lucky to have the entire site to ourselves so it was incredibly peaceful. Heard an owl early evening, watched a nice sunset and met Kosh who was very sociable and checked in with us to make sure we were settled OK. As I had kids with me the three portaloos were a bonus and kept very well. I will return here with my dogs next time as they'd love the space.

Disliked Nothing i can think of, all was great.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Great setting with lovely sounds of birds, great trail available for a walk down the woods with sightings of deers, and the site has an amazing view of the stars. Josh, the host, is very hospitable and is very responsive to our queries. Portable toilet is well kept clean as well as the whole camping site.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Nice to have the whole place to ourselves, saw a pheasant and a hare. We would not have been surprised to see deer too.
Friendly host who brought us drinking water.

Disliked Only very basic toilet. Quite expensive compared to other campsites with better facilities.
