  • Dog-friendly farm site in the North Downs with countryside views
  • Peaceful 30 acre field with SSSI status area within 15 miles of London
  • Firewood and Longhorn beef available to buy; pre-order food
Sign in for a peaceful stay in the North Downs at Warren Barn Farm, where deep valleys and chalk downlands make for pretty pleasant surroundings. Sat on the edge of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sublime countryside views and hiking, cycling or horse riding are on the cards from this Woldingham wild camping site. And in case you have a sudden craving for the city or the pleasures of the salt and sand, it's an hour’s drive from central London or the coast. Plant down in a plot on this 30-acre field, tucked away in a protected area of the countryside, and book yourself onto a farm safari, as this is a working farm site. The farm produces pasture-fed Longhorn beef that you can pre-order for a tasty night by the barbecue. Conveniently, you can also pre-order home-cooked food to fuel the day’s adventures and buy logs for the firepits around the site (no fires anywhere on site other than in the firepits, please – this is grazing land for the rest of the year). Things are geared towards wild camping here, but you'll have access to showers and there are regularly cleaned toilets dotted around. If snacks are needed, you can build a trusty stash from the supermarket five minutes’ drive away. In Warlingham, there are a few pubs for when the time calls for a chilled beer or nice meal, plus a cosy café and a garden centre for a casual potter around (find a leisure centre with a swimming pool too, 10 minutes’ drive away). The site also has a seasonal maize maze for outdoor entertainment (ask site staff for details).

Local attractions

Add binoculars to your packing list, as Norbury Park (a 35-minute drive) is a prime spot for birdwatching. In the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (35 minutes), there are lots of cycling and walking routes or Box Hill (35 minutes) for a hilltop hike with sublime views. There are flowers aplenty at the National Trust site Emmetts Garden (25 minutes). Chartwell (15 minutes) is another National Trust site, this time a trip into the old stomping grounds of Winston Churchill (now a pleasant garden and house the public can explore). Daring souls in the squad? The local airsports centre (five minutes) has lessons in hang gliding and paragliding. If that’s a little too daring and you’re looking for a more leisurely pursuit, the Warwick Wold Waters (15 minutes) are a good fishing spot nearby. Play barns and farm animals are on the itinerary at Godstone Farm (15 minutes), a good stop for children who might enjoy following a farm or dinosaur trail. Small-sized explorers can also go into the ancient woodlands at Lullingstone Country Park (35 minutes), where there’s a picnic area and play area.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: The views were amazing, the toilets, showers and washing up station although basic were clean and tidy. Will definitely be returning as well.

Disliked: The only dislike was the four youngsters that were there and when they came back to the site about ten they then started to scream and fight and then the lads went and sat in their car and started playing what I assume was music, and that continued until about one in the morning. We did ring the campsite owners and left a voicemail, and we did receive a response the following morning saying they would look into the matter.

Liked: Beautiful views and a quiet lovely space to camp.

Disliked: The 2 portable toilets were a disgrace which was disappointing especially as we were the only people there.

From the manager: Whilst we did have an issue on Monday when unfortunately our toilet cleaning company had a vehicle breakdown, the toilets where completely emptied and cleaned on Tuesday. We are therefore suprised to read your review - as you say you where the only people there and we where very disappointed with how we found the toilets after you left? However I am glad you enjoyed the views and peace and quiet

Simple and natural campsite, some problems that need to be fixed!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Short stay in this campsite, which looks more like a pasture, so large without delimitation with an unobstructed view. Good contact with the host who was responsive Location of the campsite interesting because less than an hour from London, quiet. The practical sheltered kitchen area next to the bins.

Disliked: Practical place to wash and big enough with enough to put the toiletries. Hot water very very random however, we could not shower properly! Dirty toilets with bad smells during our visit, when we pull what is like a toilet flush from the portaloos

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I am sorry that we had a problem with the loos, the showers worked perfectly when the wind had died down in the morning.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Great location for London. Quiet. Good views. No hassle. Gas portable shower block. Dish wash station.

Disliked: Portable toilets are disgusting.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, I am sorry that the loos spoilt your other wise enjoyable stay. We had an issue with the guy that comes to clear the loos, sadly over a busy weekend. I had done my best to clean them but we do rely on them being emptied.

Just perfect. Massive field. We felt like we were on our own!!!
