A holiday for yourselves, and you get to do good for others at the same time? It’s a win-win situation when you stay at Springbok Campsite, part of a secluded estate on the border of Surrey and West Sussex. The estate is run as a charity that provides accommodation and support for former seafarers, and any profits made by the campsite will be fed back into providing services for the residents. Concerned you may have to sacrifice certain facilities in order to support this worthy cause? Not a bit of it – this is a lovely site that’s part of a 260-acre estate made up of farmland, forest and formal gardens. You’ll be able to take walks around at your leisure, perhaps stopping in at the pretty walled garden or picking up a day pass for some fishing on the one-acre lake. Dog-friendly pitches here are spacious and fuss-free, and have access to basic shower and toilet facilities, plus a camp kitchen/washing-up shack. Guests are also welcome to stop in for a drink at the on-site social club. Barbecue evenings at your pitch are permitted too, if you’d like – there are shops 10 minutes’ drive away in Cranleigh for all the bits you’ll need. (Please note that barbecues must be raised off the ground and disposed of responsibly once they have cooled down.) If a country walk and pub are musts on your rural break, you’ll be pleased to hear that both are on hand – in fact, you could combine both with a stroll to one of the hostelries within a 30/45-minute walk. For other outings nearby you’ll have a choice of heading north to the Surrey Hills, west to the South Downs National Park or south to the coast (about 40 minutes away).

  • The grocery shop is open between 01/01 and 31/12.
  • At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.
  • A cable measuring at least 15 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
  • Please note that the shower facilities are unisex.
  • Guests must only use green waste chemicals for waste and water disposal.

Lovely, peaceful spot with spacious, tidy pitches and beautiful gardens. Friendly locals and the bar get a shout-out. Facilities are clean but basic; showers can be hit-and-miss with temp and hot water. Great for walks. Good value and many keen to return.

Liked Amazing campsite! Beautiful gardens and areas to walk with the dogs. The social centre and small shop are convenient. And it’s possible to order food in advance if required. Very peaceful, and all the staff that we met were friendly. The shower and toilet block, are cleaned daily and nice hot showers

Liked The area is lovely, the main house has Japanese garden which is great to walk about, the residential home is friendly warm and inviting and prices are very reasonable, if you want dinner or breakfast you must book 24 hours in advance, definitely be back

Disliked Nothing, if I have a small complaint it’s the showers need the black mould removed but very clean

Liked We stayed at this campsite in our VW campervan for the night and absolutely loved it. The pitches were spacious and level, with easy access to electric hook-ups. We particularly liked the mix of hard standing and grass, as we wanted to check out our new awning, the different surfaces made this really simple. The location was peaceful and surrounded by beautiful countryside — perfect for morning walks and watching the sunset from our van doors. The facilities were spotless, with clean showers and toilets, and there was even a small camp shop with essentials in the main house, very useful as we forgot a toothbrush! We will definitely stay again, and maybe even book a meal!

Liked Quiet, small, well kept site. Plenty of hot water in the shower shack. Only stayed one night as we were passing through but it looked like there were plenty of nice walks. Would definitely recommend.

Liked Great little site. Clean and comfortable. Very nice welcome at the clubhouse/bar and lovely walks. Recommended. We didn’t get hot water for a shower. Not sure if we missed something so not prepared to put it down as a negative this time

Liked We had a great few days at Springbok. Big hardstanding pitches with beautiful scenery and everything you could need close by. Perfect for a little stop over or just a quiet few days in the country side. Everyone was really friendly and helpful.

Disliked Nothing we had a great stay but just to mention the showers are a little outdated and unkept for our liking but didn't matter for us as we have our own in the caravan.
Also we missed the bar being closed earlier than we thought for a weekend but that was completely our fault and we know for next time.

If you like a good garden visit on your break, you’ve come to the right spot – it won’t take long at all to reach the likes of the National Trust gardens at 121-acre Winkworth Arboretum (15 minutes’ drive) and Nymans (35 minutes), with woodlands, a lake and natural play areas. The colourful Ramster Gardens (15 minutes) and pretty Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (35 minutes) are certainly worth adding to the list too. If you’ve brought the kids along, a trip to Fishers Farm Park (15 minutes) may well be on the cards for tractor rides, mini golf, treetop trails, pony rides and lots of animals to meet (plus indoor play areas in case of dodgy weather). You might also like to see the big birds at Surrey Hills Falconry (20 minutes) or hit the beach in Worthing (40 minutes). No kids in your party? A day at Denbies Wine Estate (35 minutes) might appeal instead then – you can sign up for tours and tastings here, and there’s a lovely restaurant too.
