  • Peaceful, rural family site 20 minutes' drive from Ashford
  • A 15-minute drive to a rare breeds centre; Dymchurch beach 35 minutes
  • In Bethersden, five minutes' walk from a pub; opposite a fishery
If your idea of heaven is staying in the quiet Kent countryside, Wildside Camping and Glamping may be just the place for you. Quiet time is strictly enforced from 9pm every evening so that guests can get to sleep without children screaming, shouting or playing ball games – instead, you're invited to go stargazing with a glass of wine around the firepit. The owners' young toddlers often come to visit campers with marshmallows and s'more-making kits. With fields sheltered by mature trees and a log cabin-style handmade toilet and shower block with double family-sized LED rainforest showers, the site is on a family-run farm on the outskirts of pretty Bethersden village, easily accessible from Ashford (20 minutes’ drive) and all its amenities. Rural surroundings include acres of fields with horses grazing in them, and plenty of woodland for hikes. If you get lucky, you might see wild deer on your escapades – and keen anglers can hotfoot it down to the fishing lakes opposite the camping field (extra costs involved) to try their luck with the trout. Having small children themselves, the owners have added family toilet seats for small children and a communal marquee area with ping pong, badminton, air hockey and sofa-style seating. Larger families and friends can set up at the picnic benches, and if you feel the need for anything extra, sunloungers, barbecues, gazebos, firepits and firewood are available to hire from the site. You can also pre-book a packed lunch or tea and cakes to keep the wolves at bay. If you ever fancy a meal out instead, there are a couple of gastro-pubs in Bethersden. The nearest is just five minutes' walk away (at the end of the lane). A dairy farm selling ice cream and fresh milk is under five minutes' drive away too. As this is such a peaceful spot, the owners ask that there be no amplified music. While barbecues are allowed, please ensure they are put on bricks (which can be collected by the gate) and don’t dispose of them while they are hot.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Very quiet. Hannah is really nice and really hands on making sure that people keep the noise down at night and respect the rules. Loved the shaded gazebo and the games for kids. The kids said this is the best campsite we've been to. Also, toilets are very clean. Wifi is also a plus. The area is beautiful, with lots to do

Disliked Only one shower, 2 toilets and one washing up basin is not enough for the number of tents. I know that Hannah is aware of it and already has plans to add more showers, so that might be resolved soon. Also, tiny nitpick, but it would be nice to have a freezer available for people to put freezer blocks to be able to keep things nice and fresh in a cool box over a few days

Lovely place , clean and tidy . Very quiet at bedtime .

Liked Beautiful spot , Hannah was really lovely and very welcoming . Good basic facilities .

Disliked Was quite obvious that the neighbours don’t approve of the site . It did feel a bit like they were always on edge worried campers/guests would upset them .

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The friendly, relaxed atmosphere. It was welcoming and spacious and the pitches weren't crowded together. The site manager was very helpful and understanding when I got a bit muddled with the electric hook up. We liked the quiet and the assorted family games that were available to use.

Disliked There only being 2 toilets and one shower room (had 2 showers in so ideal for a family) and the lack of hot water for the washing up. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi wasn't working when we visited - my children were not amused.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and the feedback :)

Absolutely correct about the wifi - annoyingly the new router arrived the day after you left :(

Toilets/showers - i agree! We have 2 new toilets awaiting construction and its the next job on the list ( i plan for higher doors too :) )

Yes - i can see how it is frustrating with cold water wash up. But you will be pleased to know i have thought of that too-
Hot water is indeed coming in the coming weeks! For now, a kettleful of boiling water should take the chill off :)
I will put a washing up bowl out there I think tomorrow.

Loved meeting you all, hope you enjoyed the milkshake. .. my girls are missing yours already - we hope to see you back.
Lovely to meet you. Thank you for staying with us !

Rainbow bell tent (medium)

Liked Loved the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Camp site was on a vast field. They had 2 horses which you can feed with carrots, kids were thrilled. Also had games (table tennis, badminton, etc) which we all enjoyed. Very clean toilets. Hannah was a lovely host which made sure our stay was enjoyable. They only accept cash so be prepared to bring in some money. Able to park and camp fire beside the tent. The bell tent was lovely and spacious enough for the 4 of us. Had a small fridge which was very useful for us. Clean beddings, floor fan was also very useful. Wifi was strong enough for our mobile phones. Overall was a lovely one night getaway. Highly recommended!
