Deer Park Campsite: Welcome to our campsite

General

  • Peaceful, family-friendly site in the woods of an ancient deer park
  • A 10-minute drive to Royal Tunbridge Wells; 20 minutes to Hever Castle
  • Café and food shop on site; fishing and clay pigeon shooting close by

Walk this way and you’ll be following in the footsteps of many before you… Deer Park Campsite is surrounded by the woodlands of Eridge Park, the family estate of the Marquess of Abergavenny. Reputedly it’s the oldest enclosed deer park in all of England, and earned itself a mention in the Domesday Book.

Fast-forward several centuries from that time and you’ll see that this family-friendly Kent site is now all set up for 21st-century life, with facilities including a reception area with shop and a café, plus separate male and female showers and toilets and accessible facilities. It’s a peaceful tents-only setup in the grass pitching areas, and it’s all kept nice and safe by having ample parking away from the pitches (but close enough to mean you don’t have to trot far with your kit).

As you’d expect from a site within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are some gorgeous views from here to form a spectacular backdrop to your stay in an ancient deer park. It all makes an excellent setting for days of rural walks and outdoor pursuits like trout fishing and clay pigeon shooting or attending events at Eridge Park (festivals, sports events and country fairs among them).

Elsewhere nearby there are some great circular walks from Royal Tunbridge Wells and Mayfield, watersports at Bewl Water and heritage galore at places like Hever Castle and Penshurst Place. Need a drink after all that activity? There are some great pubs in the local villages Eridge and Frant (both less than 10 minutes’ drive).

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

We almost had the Meadow to ourselves, and the woods too - apart from the deer. Facilities were good - clean showers and loos - and the cafe does a good breakfast. Helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Stayed in Great Robbins Shaw, its a fantastic site, the field is all wild grass with the pitches and winding paths mowed down for access. The staff were all really friendly. Washing up stations were really handy and the showers and toilets were unbelievably good. It rained heavily on my last day, but the field is the right balance between flat enough to pitch comfortably but on a slight incline to let the water drain, so had no issues with standing water. Also, because cars aren't allowed in the camping field it meant there was no churned up mud to contend with!

This was an ideal place for me to return to bikepacking. I was overpacked and the staff had a good-natured joshing of a guy with four panniers of kit, though I may have the record for the most well-fed cyclist at the park.

The pitches are spacious, and far enough apart that noise from kids playing in nearby pitches was tiny. The facilities are clean, the staff incredibly well mannered and helpful, and I intend to go back. But the real wonder is the deer park. A fifteen minute walk over initially rough/muddy ground, and you open up into a wondrous view of a lake with very fast-moving deer - so close and so fast it's hard to catch them on camera before they're back in the woods.

I cannot wait to go back with friends tbh.

This campsite is one of the most friendly and cleanest campsite we have been and even includes an independent (very popular) cafe onsite with occasional special food night.

The staff that runs the campsite are the most friendly and supportive bunch from the moment we booked and to our trip. Though we've booked on Pitchup, you can also book on their website where you can actually choose a pitch instead of being allocated one. There's loads of pitching spots. Originally booked The Meadow but due to heavy downpour and being a quieter weekend, we were given the option to move to the family friendly pitch site when we arrived to avoid the damp muddy walk. The pitches are spacious and can easily fit multiple medium tents if you are in a group or massive tents for family, etc.

The toilet/shower facilities is super clean and well maintained! There's even a few sinks outside to clean your dirty dishes and a spot to rinse the countryside muck of your boots. If you are choose to stay in The Meadow, there's multiple toilet blocks in the area but no showers close by so you would have to walk to the reception area, which can be daunting in damp rainy conditions.

The campsite is at a reasonable walking distance (35-45mins) on the A26 from Eridge train station but can be a quick taxi ride (even from Tunbridge Wells station if you arrive there). But as we wanted to walk, Eridge is a perfect distance.

The food at the cafe is very good at a decent price. Great spot to sit outside to eat on a sunny day before and after your activities. The cafe staff is also super friendly too!

Since this campsite is nestled in a Deer park, we were

Overall - this is easily a campsite I would recommend and since it's only tent pitching, it makes it more convenient for backpackers. But also a great spot for the family trip out from the busy city life. What a great find!

The location is great and easy to get to. The staff was very helpful, any changes we needed were not a problem.

There is a great cafe on site and if you want to enjoy real camping you can buy portions right on-site including beans, eggs, fresh veggie and butter and olive oil.

The facilities are clean and easily accessible.

We will definitely come back to this great place.
