  • Glamping stays in the grounds of one of Kent's top attractions
  • Includes free access to Leeds Castle and grounds for your entire stay
  • Four-poster beds, woodburning stoves and firepit with cooking griddle
This is the stuff of dreams for your budding knights (and possibly any grownups who’ve ever harboured fantasies of living at a huge historic pad): the chance to spend a night or few at Leeds Castle, one of Kent’s finest attractions and proudly nicknamed ‘the loveliest castle in the world’. Like the knights of yore you’ll have the run of the place by day and night, as free entry to the castle and grounds is included for your whole stay at Knight's Glamping at Leeds Castle. The castle itself is closed at night but you can ramble around the estate after hours (although it’s recommended you stick to the well-lit parts and keep any sibling rivalry-induced sword battles well away from the moat). Accommodation standards have seen distinct improvements since medieval times, you’ll no doubt be thankful to hear. Bell tents are kitted out with top-notch furnishings, including a double four-poster bed that’ll be made up with luxury bed linen ready for your arrival. Each tent also has a woodburning stove and plenty of furry throws to keep you snug. A short walk away is the Knights’ Cottage, which houses smart shower and washing facilities. Such a stay demands a grand feast, of course, and the folk here have made that easy – it’s a short stroll from the tents to the open-air picnic area for meals cooked on a cast iron griddle over a firepit and served up on the picnic tables. Suitable supplies of meat and ale can be picked up at the supermarket and shops 10 minutes away in Maidstone.

Local attractions

To say there’s heaps to do at Leeds Castle is something of an understatement: it would be easy to fill many, many hours taking in all its attractions. You’ll want to start with a tour of the castle of course: its story starts way back in 1119 and takes in numerous characters including Henry VIII and Anglo-American heiress Lady Baillie, who bought the place as a country retreat in 1926. Once you’ve seen inside, there’s plenty more to come. Kids can become king of their own castle at the huge Knights’ Realm adventure playground or wend their way through the maze to find the shell-encrusted underground grotto. Punting, falconry displays, Segway tours and swinging through the trees at the Go Ape adventure park are also worth scheduling time for, as are strolls through the gorgeous gardens. If you fancy taking in more of the surrounds, perhaps take a bimble around the woods at Bedgebury National Pinetum (35 minutes’ drive), make new furry friends at Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats (15 minutes) or pop the cork on fine local wines and ciders at Biddenden Vineyards, 25 minutes away.
