  • Family-friendly glamping accommodation in a 16-acre woodland
  • A 10-minute drive to Canterbury and Herne Bay; Whitstable, 20 minutes
  • Private garden areas with sheltered outdoor kitchen and dining areas
Grab your beach stuff, gather any walking gear and get yourself over to Wishwood Glamping, a glamping site in good ol’ Kent. With 16 acres of woodland at Wishwood, this is by no means short on space to relax. A retreat it is indeed – all the accommodation has a private garden area with a sheltered outdoor kitchen and dining areas, meaning that alfresco eves will keep you well-occupied… Rustle up a flame on the firepit and set about simmering some fresh produce and herbs sourced from the village shop, butchers and farm shop, which are all within 10 minutes’ walk of the retreat. There’s a pub just down the way too (it’s a 15-minute walk away to be exact), and there's another pub 15 minutes’ walk north of the site for good measure. Seaside on your mind? It might just be in Kent, as the coast is famed for its white cliffs, oysters and sandy coves. Handily, coastal areas like Herne Bay (10 minutes’ drive), and Whitstable are within striking distance. After a dip in the saltwater, rinse off using your private toilet and shower back at base. A toasty logburner awaits inside, along with bedding. Booked guests only are permitted at Wishwood Glamping to keep it as splendid as possible.

Local attractions

Get to know the Kent coast, first of all. Whitstable (20 minutes’ drive) will give you a good introduction to the local oysters and shellfish, beaches and a typical Kent harbour, as well as the seven-mile stretch which heads between Whitstable and Canterbury. Herne Bay (10 minutes) has a huge pier and heaps of classic amusements, while Reculver (20 minutes) is a historical outing indeed with twin medieval towers and a ruined Roman fort along the sea. You may have already cycled to Canterbury (10 minutes) from Whitstable or you may be eyeing up by car. It’s very attractive, especially for history aficionados and theatre fans. Canterbury Cathedral has been around since 597 AD and The Marlowe (10 minutes) runs everything from Shakespeare dramas to stand-up comedy. If you’d rather walk somewhere, that’s okay too. The Wildwood Trust (25 minutes’ walk) has wild boar, wolves and brown bears across its discovery park. Add that to the list of wildlife you spot on hikes in the chalk landscapes of the Wye Downs (35 minutes).

Yurt

Liked: There was so much space around the yurt and it was very private. All the facilities you could hope for: your own toilet, shower, and cooking facilities. As well as beds, fire pit, chairs and tables. Being in the middle of the woods was just fantastic. The kids could safely explore and there were also trails set up through the woods. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They made sure we had everything we needed. The sight has a locked gate, so it is very safe. We can’t wait to go back.

Disliked: Nothing at all. It was perfect.
