  • Small, independent and adults-only site with a spacious field
  • A five-minute drive from bike hire in Lyndhurst, with walks nearby too
  • Village pub and shop a short walk away; firewood available on site
‘Too gorgeous not to share’ – that’s the conclusion that the owners of Park Farm Holidays came to in 2021 after their family moved into Park Farm House. One look at the land and you should see why: the private field setting has views of fields and woods. Under the stars or under the open sky, you should feel quite relaxed indeed. In the New Forest village of Minstead, a convenient five-minute drive from the A31, the owners are a brother (on-site management) and a sister (in charge of the booking, communication and social media). They’re big animal appreciators, so well-behaved pets are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead due to the horses, ducks and other dogs (let ‘em know in advance too, please). Whether you’ve got an affinity for rambles or cycles – or you simply want to rest up – their private field is in the right spot. Of course, New Forest nosh must also feature in your stay too. Very handily, a village shop and a traditional New Forest pub with homecooked food are five minutes’ walk away. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s grave lies under a big tree at the back of the village’s 13th-century church. If you’re not eating out at the local, or one of the pubs a short drive or cycle away, nab yourself some firewood for a small fee (each load lasts around two days), subject to the New Forest Authority’s fire and barbecue bans. There’s no wifi in the field, but there’s usually 4G signal in the area suitable for hotspots.

Emperor bell tent

Liked: Beautiful countryside experience. The tent itself is perfect, lots of amenities provided. Unfortunately on our arrival day it was heavily raining and we had planned to have a BBQ so we were very pleased to find an electric griddle pan provided. Kettle and toaster also provided along with utensils, cups etc, anything needed for a short stay. Lovely log burner provided to keep warm at night. The site itself is clearly well managed and maintained. The tent was lovely and clean along with the portaloo and shower facilities. Once the rain had dried up the grass was cut immediately. Short walk to pub which was great, lovely food. Would definitely return next year! Thank you Colin and Karen.

Emperor bell tent

Liked: The tent itself was lovely, well prepared, spacious and comfortable. Nice to camp among the local deer. Made good use of the stove!

Disliked: Limited toilet and washing facilities which were some distance from the tent. A portaloo was not in keeping with the relative glamour of the tent. An electric cool box would have been really useful since the fridge on site was a long walk!

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are glad that you like our tent. We provide a portaloo that is 30 m from the tent, it is very clean and due to current New Forest regulations, is our only option for in-field toilet facilities. We also provide additional service toilets that are in the yard for guest to use. There are 2 shower rooms on site with basins, which are between 70-150 m away depending on the tent location. We do not provide fridges, however, on this occasion we tried to accommodate you but allowing you to use a fridge in the yard. We encourage all guest to check the features section for each accommodation for facilities we provide. Guests are more than welcome to bring an electric cool box, as there is electrical sockets in the tents. BW Karen and Colin

Local attractions

Lucky for you, Lyndhurst is just five minutes’ drive away. The so-called ‘capital of the New Forest’ has bike hire for those who’d like to tackle the New Forest trails with the help of a pair of pedals. There are many good walking routes that depart directly from Minstead, or just a short drive away… Settings for peaceful wanders might include Blackwater Arboretum (15 minutes), which has some of the UK’s oldest Douglas Fir trees, or Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary (15 minutes). Deers gather in the meadow below the boardwalk at feeding times. Even with all the tall trees and ponies about, the New Forest also has a stunning stretch of coastline. Get your sailing fix at Milford on Sea (35 minutes). There are all sorts of clifftop walks and watersports, and Lyminton (25 minutes) is another sailing haven. Pick up fresh fish for your firepit or take a dunk in the seawater baths that have been in the town since the 19th century.
