  • On the outskirts of Lymington; Brockenhurst 15 minutes' drive
  • Well-equipped furnished bell tents with private firepits
Want to fill your lungs with fresh sea air? Solent Glamping is a friendly site in Hampshire in an excellent location between the New Forest and the south coast. Set on the outskirts of Lymington – a popular Georgian market town with a smart marina, bustling high street and ferry services to the Isle of Wight – this cosy glamping site is in a top location for exploring a fab part of South East England. The pre-erected bell tents will be set up and ready for your stay. Please note that bedding is not provided, so you will need to bring your own (if you require an airbed, please speak to the site team in advance). While there's no electricity, you can charge your phones for free at reception. Solent Glamping is set on a larger campsite in the village of Pennington, within easy walking distance of a nature reserve with walks around old salt marshes and The Chequers Inn, a friendly pub just under two miles from base. Slightly further afield, Lymington town centre has a huge variety of independent shops, cafés and restaurants to try, as well as a railway station that connects the town up with Brockenhurst (15 minutes), a pretty village deep in the New Forest.

Bell tent

Liked: NA

Disliked: Set in a corner of very busy camping site, very noisy till very late Tent had not been cleaned or bushed out, lots of grass throughout. Understand that you get grass in tents whilst camping but the amount in tent on arrival indicated it had not been cleaned. Used sanitary towel behind head of bed on arrival Sweet wrappers in tent on arrival Showers were not cleaned to high standard as advertised. Generally unclean and not as advertised. Not worth the money spent when we have stayed in my cleaner, more beautiful places for less. Tried calling host several times, no answer. Had to ask at reception who told us to pick any tent that was free.

Bell tent

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: With the title glamping, we expected more. The description on the site is not what you’ll get. To start with it was in the corner of a field, yes it would have been lovely if it wasn’t surrounded by other campers literally to the fence. My car got hit countless times by kids playing ball and these weren’t the type of people you could politely ask to stop or try to be careful, parents didn’t seem to care. It was loud and noisy. The tent was full of bugs and the air beds not inflated properly at all. The rugs that are mentioned are 2 the size of bath mats. The side of the tent had was also sagging. We didn’t stay and decided to drive the 2.5hrs home.

Bell tent

Liked: Location was close to a lot of nice areas and Lymington was very close for dinner etc

Disliked: One air bed was deflated when we arrived, it was pumped up and went down again within an hour. This was replaced before bedtime. The other air bed then went down quite a bit overnight. The campsite around Solent glamping was busy and noisy and seemed poorly organised to allow access to the glamping portion of the field. Overall fairly disappointed for the money

Bell tent

Liked: Leaving

Disliked: For £110 a night I'd rather had stayed in my shed. For that price you get an old bell tent with a blow up bed. No electric No logs for fire Electric light which wasn't charged. You drive through a rough looking part, full of transit vans, hobby and tabbat caravans ( if you know you know) Toilets and shows disgusting and busy. If I hadn't had already paid I'd have left Don't stay here unless you're desperate.

Bell tent

Liked: Very pretty location. We loved the new forest and want to visit it again. Very near the harbour which was great

Disliked: Wasn’t an ideal holiday - Firstly the website says in the FAQ’s What do I need to bring with me? The only thing you need to bring is bedding (double)” We then called twice and couldn’t get through to confirm this. - 2 days before we were due to arrive we managed to get an answer to the phone where they confirmed that despite the website stating The above and talking about being furnished to a high standard, all they actually provided was a fire pit, bed, lighting and a bag of wood (so no utensils, plates, kettle or BBQ (which would have been fine for us had they stated this obviously on the website, however instead we then had to rush around for basic camping supplies for our ‘glamping’ holiday (would have thought a kettle at minimum would have been included when it cost £110 a night) - On arrival we couldn’t find the site as it is actually part of Hurst campsite (which hasn’t been signposted on the road and dosen’t mention on Solent glamping website - We arrived at 4:10 (an hour and 10 mins after told we were told we could arrive) and couldn’t get hold of the person so had to wait in the car for 20 mins to get hold of them. - Then the gentleman arrived and it turned out our tent hasn’t been prepared at all (no furnishing, beds not inflated etc). So after arriving at 4:10 we were able to get into the tent at 4:45 so we just sitting sat in the car with our child until it was ready - I’m not sure why it wasn’t fully ready at 3pm (we had already fully paid for the whole holiday a week+ before arrival so it wasn’t like they thought we were coming - Our made disappointment was that the website said all you need is bedding which isn’t true or explained - Our lamp didn’t work the first night and as there was no electrics our phones died so we were without lighting the first night (the gentleman kindly gave us a new one for our second night and also an additional bag of wood which was appreciated) - Our child’s bed had a leak so deflated during the first night (the gentleman pumped it up on the second day but unfortunately it had deflated again before we went to bed so all 3 of us shared the other) - For £220 (£110) a night it was so disappointing and we wish we’d booked something else as it didn’t fell like ‘glamping’ at all - wish we used the money on something else really

Bell tent

Liked: Nice large bell tent, comfy beds, free logs and fire pit were a nice addition, lovely walk to nice local pubs - we went to The Gunn Inn in Keyhaven, and lots of space for the dog to run around, very friendly/helpful staff, good shop/cafe on site

Disliked: One of the beds had a slow puncture, could have done with some nice touches, like fairy lights, s’mores pack, more rugs, etc. Not really enough toilets for the number of campers in the main campsite

Local attractions

Lymington town centre (five minutes' drive) has a lot of appeal with its grand Georgian high street and peaceful cobbled lanes down by the marina. Stop for fish and chips on the quay, take a dip in the historic saltwater lido, explore the local area's past at the St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery or book a ticket as a foot passenger from the ferry terminal (five minutes) for good value day trips to the Isle of Wight. Next up, take the train or drive to Brockenhurst (15 minutes), a large village deep in the New Forest where you can hire bikes and start exploring the national park's many miles of traffic-tree routes. Take time to stop off at Roydon Woods Nature Reserve while you're here for an exceptionally peaceful forest walk, or for something with potential for rainy days, take the kids off to the National Motor Museum just down the road at Beaulieu (20 minutes). To spend time by the coast, head to Exbury Gardens (30 minutes), a lush landscape on the edge of an estuary that's within a short drive of Lepe beach, or head to Highcliffe Castle (20 minutes) over in Dorset and explore its mix of sand and shingle.
