You'll have loads of leisurely options at this Greater London site: peaceful and modern Lee Valley Camping and Caravan Park is less than an hour from the bright lights of central London (for city folk escaping and city connoisseurs visiting), and (the clue is in the name) lies among the splendid scenery, walks and bike rides of the Lee Valley. Need just a bit more? An 18-hole pay and play golf course is also on site for guests to use at members' prices. The site has a well-stocked shop, a spacious play area and a modern facilities block with toilets, free hot showers and a laundry corner with washing machines, tumble dryers and an ironing board. Walks and bike rides are all around, as well as the Lee Valley Athletics Centre for those who feel energetic and a nearby Odeon cinema complex for cosy evenings or damp afternoons.

What customers say

Great access to central London via regular public transport, with many praising its handy location and peaceful vibe. Guests often rave about the friendly, helpful staff, spotless facilities, and roomy pitches. While some reckon the loos and showers need a freshen up, and busy times can affect cleanliness, most punters want to come back.

Woodland cabin (no pets)

Liked Very cosy cabin. I was worried about it being cold in the winter, but it was lovely and warm. Easy to get to London on public transport and very reasonably priced for London accommodation just before Christmas. Would stay here in the winter again.

Disliked The large cabins are far from the toilet block, which is hard at night time with kids. But that's just the layout of the site.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and we're really pleased you loved the cabins. We hope to see you again soon.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Friendly welcome, decent shop open hours with a good little selection of goods, flat pitches, bus stop 5 mins away, cinema the same 5 mins.

Disliked No plugs in sink with push taps, summer warm hot water temperature for showers but sinks ok. Needs a tidy up around the site. The water facilities area is a bit of a mess wouldn’t need much just not tended like most sites.

Cocoon T camping pod (no pets, twin)

Liked Fabulous stay even in December, gated access adds for security, shepherds hut was accessed by key safe, was lit, well heated with mobile radiator, had tea and coffee making facilities, comfortable single camp beds and parking next to hut. We ensured we brought our own bedding, pillows, water and camp toilet as didn’t want to trudge out to toilet block in rain and dark. Would make for a great stay in spring, summer as hut had veranda and lots to explore. If staying longer there is shower block, washing up station and laundry. In future we may bring camper van as green spots for vans, caravans with or without electric hook up. Out of Ulez charge zones. Would highly recommend. There is also a harvester about 20min walk away but area leading to eatery is somewhat run down. Site next to golf course and lake.

Disliked Don’t follow Sat nav via post code, use address as Sat nav will take you in wrong direction, hence little difficult to find in dark on busy roads. Site is situated half way down Meridian way which is a very busy Road turning off near gym and Aldi’s so keep your peepers out for camping sign

Local attractions

London, of course… get into the city in under an hour from the local station, Edmonton Green – trains run from here towards Liverpool Street station, gateway to the hundreds of things to see and do around the city. Those who've come to escape city throngs will happily find many activities available in the Lee Valley, Hertfordshire and Essex, from gentle walking and cycling trails to adrenaline-raising whitewater rafting or family paddling on the Olympic course at the Lee Valley White Water Centre (where the canoe slalom events were held during London 2012). Seasonal fishing is available in the area if you prefer a more placid pursuit, or you could take the crew along to Lee Valley Park Farms at Waltham Abbey, to meet meerkats, llamas, reindeer and other non-native (and native) critters, watch events like falconry displays and pig and lamb racing, or let the kids loose to career around one of the four adventure play areas. The 1,000 acres of River Lee Country Park should sort those who want to see critters in their natural habitat, as well as those who want to walk, cycle, or get out into the water in a canoe, rowing boat, electric boat or pedalo.
