  • A cluster of family-friendly boutique lodges in rural east Sussex
  • A 15-minute drive from Eastbourne and 40 minutes from Hastings
  • Roomy decking with a hot tub; pub and farm shop just 25 minutes’ walk
Luxurious rural living and sublime countryside views might be some of the phrases that spring to mind when you scope out Warren Wood Country Park. How so? Well, this rural east Sussex setting has a cluster of boutique lodges with heaps of peace and quiet and spacious decking areas that host a bubbly hot tub. If that doesn’t already sound like a cocktail for an indulgent escape or a romantic retreat, just look to the ultra-stylish interior, which oozes with plenty of light and space. There’s a blend between traditional charm and contemporary features, making it an excellent choice for those of you who’d like to stay in the countryside but still want all your creature comforts. Do as much or as little as you please at Warren Wood Country Park – but while it might be tempting to spend much of your time in the bubbles of your hot tub, know that this is also a wise base for exploring Sussex’s coast, countryside and ancient history. Count in visits to castles, abbeys and gardens, as well as ample opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Perhaps hikes over the Eastbourne (15 minutes’ drive) cliffs, windsurfing off the Royal Parade or lounging on Eastbourne beach? Hitting up the Old Town and cliff railway in historic Hastings (40 minutes)? Or maybe, first and foremost, you’ll decide to scope out what country pubs are around locally. Spoilers – there’s one 25 minutes’ walk down the road with a splendid outdoor section. There’s a farm shop on the nearby road which can be reached in 25 minutes’ walk from the site too for any local produce you fancy laying your paws on.

What customers say

Top lodges by the lake are praised for space, quality, and quiet, with hot tubs a luxury. Some noted decking privacy issues, and a few wanted more towels/linen, better shower storage, and fewer fine signs. Wi-Fi was a minor hiccup for some.

2 bedroom lodge (pet friendly, hot tub, woodland, superior)

Liked The quality of accommodation was excellent. The finishing touches are that little it more with great quality baths and showers.
The gated entry creates a safe feel and the site was very quiet and relaxing. Some may not enjoy the walk from the car park but we preferred having little traffic moving about.

Disliked Considering this is accommodation that includes a hot tub supplying just one towel per guest is quite tight and certainly expected more.
Whilst instructions are important the Lodge is full of signage threatening fines for most actions (including not taking your rubbish to bins at end of stay) which was a bit overboard.
The decking areas had varying levels of privacy screens and something in place to cover the hot tub in wet weather would be a big enhancement.
The hot tub was the worst I had been in for discolouring jewellery so probably best to remove beforehand.

2 bedroom lodge (hot tub, no pets, woodland, superior)

Liked The lodge was absolutely spotless and very well decorated with everything to a really good standard. We stayed in lodge 6 and it was right at the end out the way of the river as we have two young children. It was a perfect location. The park was so quiet and but not far away from the beach and amenities. The hot tub was lovely and we were really lucky with the weather watching the sun set which having some bubbles in the bubbles. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Disliked Not a dislike but I would say a welcome addition to the lodge would be plastic wine glasses/flutes for the hot tub as we only had plastic cups.
This is not a complaint as we really welcomed this but the Wi-Fi isn’t very good. I think that’s because we were right at the end. I know that some people, are always very obsessed with having to have Wi-Fi.

Local attractions

Whether you’re hunting for antique bargains in Bexhill (20 minutes’ drive) or taking out a sailing boat from its seafront, your Sussex break has the potential for plenty of variety. Historic Lewes (half an hour) has a 16th-century castle and plenty of pub stops for between your exploration. There’s also Brighton (50 minutes) a little further out. Its buzzy seafront is a mighty-fine setting for things like sea kayaking, paddleboarding, beach volleyball or riding the fairground rides on Palace Pier. Perhaps you’ll want to pay a visit to the sea animals in the aquarium or seek out other entertainment in the form of pottery making, escape rooms and cabaret shows. Those of you who are having a family getaway might also be happy to find that Knockhatch Adventure Park (10 minutes) is just up north. With a castle-shaped playground, a petting farm, waterslides and an owl sanctuary, there’s lots to keep up with any short attention spans.
