  • Peaceful pitches on a working farm just on the edge of Crowborough
  • A 15-minute drive from Royal Tunbridge Wells and Pooh Sticks Bridge
  • Close to Ashdown Forest walks; horse riding available on the farm
Beechenwood Farm is a peaceful East Sussex site on a working farm within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, about a mile from the centre of Crowborough. This handy location is a splendid one for walks as it’s close to Ashdown Forest, the inspiration behind Winnie the Pooh. A themed trail from Pooh Sticks Bridge around the bear’s favourite locations is highly likely to be a hit with kids and grownups alik). Horse riding’s popular around the forest too, and you can saddle up right there on the farm for your first horseback steps. Elsewhere locally you can have games of golf, hours at a bike park, vineyard wanders and rides on the Bluebell Railway; there are plenty of smart country estates and gardens to wander around as well. Barbecues are permitted on site for folk who’d like to try a bit of outdoor cookery; there are several supermarkets and independent shops in town for picking up all the bits. Takeaways, pubs and restaurants are all plentiful over there too if you’d rather someone else did the honours on the food front.

Liked: Owners absolutely amazing, thank you for letting us see the baby lambs. Perfect for who wants a “wild” type camping experience this is perfect, very quiet, surrounded by nature. Close to the town which is also great.

Liked: Can't really tell what I've liked, as we didn't stay there. We showed up on the field, had a little wander around and decided to go elsewhere. Not our style unfortunately. We like more wild camping, and this one is too close to the town for us.

Disliked: Too close to the town for me.

From the manager: We pride ourselves on our almost wild camping. We are a small working farm and that is very popular with our campers. We messaged you the night before with directions and asked you to ring me when you had arrived and we would explain all to you. We have wonderful walks all the way down to Eridge in one direction and a ten minute walk to the town in the other. We always allow firepits and foraging for wood is also very popular. We also offer horse riding experiences too and locally produced meat. We are sorry you didn't like the look of us and obviously wild camping is not your cup of tea and its a shame you didn't give us a chance.!!!!

Amazing back to basic camp site! Perfect off grid weekend!

Liked: Loved how back to basic it was, the children were safe and it was lovely and close to some amazing places. The owners were amazing, we spoke to the lady on arrival, so helpful and friendly. Would recommend to everyone! We also saw so many wild deer and rabbits, spectacular to see them in their natural habitat.

From the manager: So pleased you enjoyed yourselves. We strive to bring people back to nature whilst having a relaxing time. Plenty of wildlife to see as well as our friendly horses!

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Brilliant little site as close to wild camping as you can really get here in the UK. Donna the owner came over on arrival and offered us venison sausages and burgers. There is only a single portaloo toilet on site but we had everything we needed in our Motorhome so no issues there. Foraging for firewood was fun and there are wheelbarrows and fire pits available to use for free. We wanted to stay a little longer on the day of departure and I offered to pay Donna more but she refused saying we could stay as long as we needed to as they weren’t full. Will definitely go back for a little longer next time as our friends had to get a train home so meant we left when we did.

Disliked: Nothing. Everything is idyllic.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Beautiful campsite. Very laid back and friendly. No strict guidelines around tent / pitch size and were flexible around the time of arrival and departure. Quiet and picturesque site with animals and a mini play park for the kids! Will definitely be back!

Disliked: The toilet! Definitely at least one more needed and needs to be better lit at night time.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: I loved our stay at Beechenwood. The welcome was warm, the site owners are very friendly, genuine, accommodating and lovely, and the cost is good value and just right. There is a short (10 min) walk into town across a field and along a quiet road. I was surprised the site wasn't busier considering how close it is to the town. I'm really looking forward to visiting again. There is lots and lots of space, and a beautiful view to the north. Fire pits are normally allowed, but not during heat waves. BBQ was ok.

Disliked: The toilet is basic, and no washing facilities, but at the price point I think this is to be expected. It's a great, friendly, welcoming but basic site.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: EVERYTHING.. Where to start, such a warm welcome when we drove through the gates, local produce was offered which we were so excited to try! The setting is beautiful, it feels like your in the middle of no where, but only a short walk to Morrisons if you’ve forgotten something like beer! We watched the horses, hot air balloons and chilled all evening… Honestly if we could of stayed longer we would have done. Donna and Don were lovely hosts and I couldn’t fault anything, nothing was too much for them. Bailey dog had such a good time we plan to come back bank holiday. Thank you for such a lovely weekend.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing…
