Settle down for a relaxing stay at Ribble Valley Retreat, a small but stylish glampsite set on a working farm in the gorgeous Ribble Valley. With Langho station just opposite the farm entrance, this is not only a pretty but also a very convenient place to spend a break, with regular rail services that make it even easier to come and go as you please. With views out over Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland, this scenic spot is five minutes' drive (or train ride) south-west of the village of Whalley, where independent shops, cafés, pubs and the remains of a medieval abbey are there for the exploring by the banks of the river Calder. Just one more stop on the train (or another 10 minutes or so in the car, if you're driving) will take you to the popular market town of Clitheroe, a favourite with visitors to the Ribble Valley where more local amenities (including supermarkets) are available. At the end of a day spent out and about in the local area, slink back to base where your bell tent awaits. Each comes furnished with comfy beds, quality linen, fluffy towels and slippers that will make you feel right at home, as well as practical features like electricity, a big Belfast sink and a semi-outdoor rainfall shower too.

Local attractions

The Ribble Valley is known as a foodie hotspot far and wide, with Holmes Mill (15 minutes' drive) arguably being its most impressive addition. Here you can sample home-brewed beers, the finest local dishes and luxury ice creams all under the same roof – there's even a cinema thrown in for good measure. After treating yourself for an indulgent meal out, drinks and maybe a movie, you might want a change of pace. To get some exercise in, you can walk along any of the several footpaths that can be accessed straight from site. For a particularly scenic walk, head instead to the Tolkien Trail (15 minutes), a gorgeously green wander that inspired the author who created Middle Earth. If you've got kids to keep entertained you're also in luck, as this area has plenty of attractions designed with families in mind. All sorts of outdoor pursuits and animal encounters can be experienced just down the road at Mrs Dowsons Farm Park (10 minutes), while the ever-popular Bowland Wild Boar Park (30 minutes) and the educational The Bee Centre (30 minutes) are within easy driving distance too.

1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked: The location, the views, the accommodation. It was all fantastic and we had a great weekend!
The shepherds hut was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed.
We had a BBQ on Friday night which was easy with the coals and fire pit type BBQ.
We jumped on the train to Clitheroe early on the Saturday and had a walk around the town and market etc. which was great, before heading to the castle where there is a great park for the kids.
On the Saturday evening we gathered around the communal fire pit and had a great time with some of the other ‘campers’ for a time that we won’t be forgetting quickly.
Thoroughly recommend.

Disliked: I would have liked 1 nights supply of wood/BBQ coal to be included in the price, but everything was at an additional expense. Next time I would likely bring my own.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a positive and informative review. We will be happy to gift you some wood and coal on your next visit as a thank you for returning :0) Emma & Peter
