  • Back to basics Lancashire farm campsite with lovely views
  • Pendle Hill and Samlesbury Hall within a half-hour drive
  • On the edge of Belthorn village for pubs and farm shop; dogs welcome
Fabulous rural views, stunning sunsets and tons of fresh air… it’s all about the simple pleasures of life at Greystones Farm - Pendle View. Settle in at this small farm site and you’ll be in for a real rural experience, bedding down between fields of sheep and cows and looking out over miles of lovely Lancashire countryside. Based on open farm field at the top of Belthorn, one of the highest villages in Lancashire (approximately 300 metres above sea level), there are views for miles. Given the location, the site recommends you come prepared for all weather conditions. It’s a back to basics setup here, almost wild camping. There are very few facilities, with just a portable toilet, just how many people like it. You’ll be able to organise your pitch as you like though, parking your car there for maximum convenience and lighting a barbecue or campfire for keeping warm and/or cooking dinner. Dogs are welcome to join you for stays here, too, and there are plenty of nearby footpaths and bridleways where they can have a good walk (as can human guests, of course…) Although the views here are very much full-on countryside, it’s handy to note that the farm is in fact on the edge of the aforementioned village of Belthorn, a small and friendly place with a farm shop and a couple of pubs and restaurants for those times when you fancy eating out (or the weather dictates an indoor evening…) There’s also a bus stop in the village with services heading into Blackburn (15 minutes’ drive away) for more extensive shopping and eating options.

Liked: I was pleased with the stay and it delivered exactly what I expected, a field to camp in with a toilet. The staff were helpful and responsive and I couldn't have asked for fairer of them. The views were nice and it was quiet enough without being very remote. The best endorsement I can give is that I'm looking forward to going again some time.

Disliked: It was no fault of the site but on the night we camped the one other campers played very loud music until after 03:00 am which woke me and my daughter up. The only suggested improvement I could offer would be some slightly better signage at the entrance, the location pin provided worked well but I was still a little unsure turning into the site.

Liked: The location is exactly as advertised, with a great view and friendly owners who were happy to accommodate any additional needs if we had any. The nearby locals were very welcoming of the campsite opening, shops and amenities were only a short drive away.

Liked: Could have a campfire

Disliked: Ground was very muddy and tent pegs kept blowing out the ground, struggled getting car off the girls as it was just stuck in the mud, portaloo was dirty with no toilet roll, and the site is extremely windy didn’t ger Ang sleep

From the manager: Sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay. As stated in the description, we are a back to basics and almost wild camping experience campsite with limited facilities. We do not intend on being anything other than that. We can’t help the weather unfortunately and it has been an exceptionally wetter Summer than previous years. However we are available and have the facilities to tow away vehicles during wetter conditions, if needed. As mentioned upon arrival, you can always contact us during your stay should you need anything at all. All the best, Greystones Farm

Local attractions

Getting out for a walk or a bike ride is often the prime activity that draws people to this part of the world – and there are plenty of great places to do either, including Pendle Hill (half an hour’s drive), Witton Country Park (15 minutes) or Brockholes nature reserve (20 minutes). There’s also the option of heading north into the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) for a longer hike if you like. Mixing in a bit of history and culture should be easy enough too – perhaps a tour of the Tiffany glass collection at Haworth Art Gallery (15 minutes), a trip to see the black and white design of Samlesbury Hall (20 minutes) or a wander around the grand National Trust - Gawthorpe Hall (20 minutes). If the kids are keen to see more animals, take them along to meet pigs, feed lambs and walk with wallabies at Mrs Dowsons Farm Park (20 minutes) or set off to see a flying demonstration at the Owl & Bird of Prey Sanctuary (25 minutes). Meanwhile, if you’re on a grownup break, you may prefer to sort a gin experience at Brindle Distillery (15 minutes).
