  • Family-run 10-acre farm site with woodlands just outside Blackpool
  • A 25-minute drive to Blackpool Wake Park and Blackpool Zoo
  • Logs available to buy; firepits and barbecues permitted; shop nearby
Everything outdoorsy runs strong at Bowses Hill Farm, a family-run dog-friendly site with the tender touch of owners George and Charlotte, two big nature and outdoors lovers. It’s certainly nature-packed here, as the 10-acre farm is in a rural patch outside of Blackpool, and it has opened up its land for like-minded, keen explorers to get back to nature within the woodlands. You’ll be going down a privately-owned lane, tucked away… and once you're on site, there’s a nice mix of the homely and the wild. The owners want you to really appreciate nature, so an afternoon may look like wildlife spotting, den-building or searching for hidden tree drawings in the woodlands – or perhaps getting your hands dirty with some bushcraft activities or picking up wood and logs for a firepit. The site still has cosy creature comforts though, including a smart toilet/shower block opened for the summer 2021 season. There are logs available to buy from the site so that you may get a fire or barbecue going for some wild cooking, being sure to be mindful of their location, away from other guests and disposed of correctly. This is a wildlife haven with a peaceful stay in mind, so guests are asked to be respectful of the woodlands, leaving them unruffled, and noise levels must be kept down after 10.30pm to ensure little visitors and tired guests can get a good snooze. Conveniently, the local shop is just five minutes’ drive away from this site, so it’s easy to get your hands on more logs or other essentials ready to get exploring.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: We loved our little stay here, only stayed one night but we would of loved to stay longer. My daughter said we definitely have to come back here Daddy. She loved the pigs the most. We enjoyed the lovely walk around the site, felt safe and comfortable and I very much enjoyed the showers. Fantastic facilities, very clean and well maintained. We will definitely come back again.

The Laurels camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: Highly recommended.
Too clean and the gentle man who is owning the place is really friendly and positive character.
Just bear in mind that the fuel should be provided by your own for hot tub (wood logs)and barbecue (charcoal) either buying from the site or out from any shops .

Unpowered grass tent site (woodland, wild)

Liked: I’ve just left this site and already looking to come back again!
We spent one night at Bowses hill farm and this is how it went;
Bowses hill farm was an impromptu booking as our original campsite had unfortunately cancelled on us but how glad are we that the original plans didn’t work out otherwise we wouldn’t have found this gem!
On arrival we phoned the number on the sign to ‘check in’ and we were greeted by a friendly face who was more than happy to tell us the camp rules and simply said pitch up anywhere. We also purchased a “magic fire” bag which definitely was the cherry on the cake for the kids come dark.
We had a “woodland” pitch but truth be told my husband wanted to go deeper in the woods much to his frustration with me wanting to stay on the outskirts.
The pitch was big enough where you felt exclusion to your own private corner and didn’t feel like you were squished or sat on top of one another.
On site there is some little farm animals which looked very well looked after which kept the little one amused simply by watching and feeding our vegetable scraps.
There is a built in wooden park within the woods which doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, the reviews should be hyping it up as the kids was playing for hours on ends at it.
Around the site there is nature walks which feels like you’re in a bit of a maze with the large hedges and winding paths much to our dogs delight sniffing all the interesting wildlife and vegetation.
The toilet/shower block are a welcomed sight with how clean and maintained they are, the shower is definitely a lovely treat with hot hot hot water (which the hotter the better for me) was definitely well received and warmed any campers up from the nights chill.
The mundane jobs like washing pots were made that bit easier with the deep sinks and ideal benches so my little ones could take a pew whilst watching.
The location of this site was easy to get to and felt like you was miles away from the every day bustle of life but conveniently located at the same time for a day trip out to the seaside which is definitely planned for next time.
I felt safe at the site especially for my kids which certainly helped me relax and have a better time all around!
All in all I would definitely recommend this site to anyone to get away even for one night.
Also extra points the fact it’s a child and pet friendly camping site so I didn’t feel a nuisance bringing my tribe!
We can’t wait to come again.

Disliked: This is not a reflection on the camp site as it’s supposed to be quiet hours from 10.30pm however this site does offer glamping and there was a party in one of the cabin/tubs and the shrieking until early hours of drunken antics which luckily my kids are heavy sleepers but it did wear thin when we was trying to get to sleep come midnight.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Very child friendly. Loved the farm animals, woodland park, hidden trails and bike track. My son spent all day on them. He even had his breakfast watching the goats. It's rare to get any time to yourself with a 2 year old so it gave me time to pack up the tent!

Nice quiet site, felt very safe.

Disliked: Not much really. We had a great time. It was a little confusing when we arrived to the site. There was no answer on the phone and couldn't find anyone to ask questions on where to go and where to pitch up. Just muddled along and it was fine.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Absolutely everything was perfect. The kids can run around completely unaccompanied without fear of them falling into a pig pen. The farm was fantastic, the goats went down especially well. And the forest play area doesn't get nearly enough exposure on the website. It's great, and the kids played there for hours.

It's our second time there, will definitely be coming back!

Disliked: Nothing, everything was ideal.

The Laurels camping pod (hot tub)

Liked: Amazing site. Large pod areas that are all enclosed so if there are children you wouldn’t have to worry about them escaping. The garden shed was fab. Vegetable patch and mud kitchen sink area. Greenhouse with seating and heating. Fire pit area. The hot tub was top notch. Defo need 3/4 large bags of wood to get it going but it stayed warm all night and was toasty hot in the morning still! The shed was clean and very comfortable. The added extras like tea coffee reading books and blankets were a lovely touch. The site has very clean showers and toilets with working plug sockets. A nature trail. Woodland for camping. A farm area with goats sheep and pigs. Little bunny’s run all around the field. A park. Would one thousand percent recommend again. Even after pitch up made an error on the booking the site owners were super quick to rectify. Have already booked again! Cannot wait to come back.

Disliked: Only slight thing I could say is maybe leave a dustpan and brush in the pods. I am a clean freak and had to go get my car hoover to collect up some bark.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Was a beautiful site, quite small which I really liked as it felt intimate! Had farm animals which were a nice touch as I'm a big animal lover and got to stroke a goat and lamb and even a pig.
The facilities were very well kept.
It's located not to far away from Fleetwood and Blackpool.
Not to far away from bowland national park for lovely walks.
Would definitely come back here again!

Disliked: Loved it all

Local attractions

You may know Blackpool for its seafront and 19th-century Central Pier (half an hour’s drive) complete with a funfair, but the attractions certainly don’t end there. You might have a hard time deciding between catapulting down waterslides in Sandcastle Waterpark (35 minutes), dropping from heights at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (35 minutes) or playing like a prisoner on the theatrical rides in the The Blackpool Tower Dungeon (half an hour). Water ready too? Blackpool Wake Park (25 minutes) has an aqua park where you'll be able to get your bounce on. Watersports are on full throttle here too, with everything from wakeboarding to kayaking. St Annes beach (40 minutes) will keep up this spirit too, as the sandy stretch is a hotspot for windsurfing and kitesurfing (and donkey rides, in typical seaside style too). To wind things back down, the town has a few spots for a more leisurely pace. Perhaps a tour of the enclosures in Blackpool Zoo (25 minutes), getting up and close with the wax figures at Madame Tussauds (half an hour) or seeing what life looks like underwater at SEA LIFE Blackpool (half an hour)?
