  • Quiet campsite in rural Lancashire for adults only
  • A mile from Chorley town centre; Rufford Old Hall 20 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches beneath Healy Nab; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Primrose Cottage Camping – a sweet-smelling name indeed, and with spectacular countryside views to match. Surrounded by grassy fields, woodlands and streams in the lovely Lancashire countryside, this site is an excellent spot for back to basics camping in a low-key setting – and as an adults-only site, it should be pretty peaceful too. Located beneath Healy Nab and next to Blackbrook stream, the site is hidden away in the local countryside scenery. Flat walks along footpaths and canal towpaths are available a few hundred yards from the site gates, making it a cinch to get out there and explore Lancashire's best scenic spots and wildlife havens. Strolling through the local landscape is, of course, a popular activity for dog owners, who are likely to be pleased to hear that Primrose Cottage Camping has pet-friendly rules, with polite four-legged friends welcome here. In fact, all guests at this quiet site are asked to be polite, for example keeping any music at a low level for the benefit of everyone around. Chorley town centre is a mile away, although with the rural views here you wouldn't know it. The closest pub is 10 minutes' walk away, and there are plenty more pubs, shops and cafés in town within easy reach either on foot (20 minutes' walk) or by car (five minutes' drive). There's also good access to the speedy M61 for long-distance drives to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, both of which can be reached within an hour.

What customers say

Adults-only spot loved for peace, quiet, and flat pitches. Spotless loos, friendly owners, great walks nearby. Hire fire pits. Occasional distant motorway hum, but most didn't mind. No showers/hot water. Great for short breaks, many keen to revisit.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Secluded spot well maintained and easy to find just off from motorway if you are on a journey easy to break it up. Toilet block clean. Lots of nice walks nearby. Cute ponies too! Great communication from owner even after I did my booking really last minute 😀

Disliked Nearby noise from motorway (understandable given how close) but wouldn't stop me staying again

Liked The site was lovely, well maintained and quiet which meant I had an excellent nights sleep. The amenities were clean and accessible.
I especially appreciated the text message from the hosts of the site sent on the day of my arrival that shared key information including finding the secluded site and site/local info.

Thanks for a great stay and I will definitely be back.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked First time solo female camper and had such a positive experience that has calmed the nerves I had for the future. Received text beforehand with directions and addional information, easy to find, huge field with ample space between campers. Laury and Anthony were super and welcoming and had a lovely chat with Laury who was very reassuring about safety etc.
Toilet block is fabulous, clean and aesthetically pleasing.
Gorgeous sunrise this morning.
May have only been down the road but felt a million miles away it was so relaxed.
Will 100% be coming back again. Thank you.

Lynsey N.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Quiet and peaceful. All pitches close to toilet block. Site felt safe. Toilets very clean and welcoming, with toilet roll, hand soap and paper hand towels provided. Flat pitches. Firewood and firepits available to purchase. Feels remote yet still close to shops for necessities. Nice to be able to go to an adults-only site during the summer holidays. Bins available on site. Drinking water tap available. Good information and directions provided by owners prior to stay. Text service available. Pretty flower beds and solar lights outside the toilet block. Thank you for a quiet, enjoyable one-night stay. We will definitely be revisiting.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked simple toilet block with lovely flower display
texted very clear instructions on how to find them as there were no signs from the main road this was needed.
text message from owners was really nice, and they were supportive when I had to call the AA
I would consider staying here again as a break from a long journey up the M6 motorway you definitely need a navigation app to get there.

Disliked nothing, but I was nervous driving over the concrete beck (water) but it was fine
