Low Borrowdale Farm: Waterfall

General

  • Family-friendly site in a secluded valley location
  • Close to the M6 and three miles from Tebay
  • Accessible only via an unpaved road; stunning fell views

Low Borrowdale Farm is a secluded Cumbria spot for wild-style camping in the Lake District National Park, with stunning fell views and a peaceful vibe. This hidden gem site is rather remote and is accessible only via an unpaved bridleway that twists and turns through the valley for a mile and a half. (Please note that while you're welcome to carefully drive up to the site, you do so at your own risk. Low-slung vehicles are recommended to park in the council-run car park instead.)

Whether you walk, drive or cycle, the views along the way are splendid and look out over Whinfell and Roundthwaite commons (you may spot a few semi-wild ponies along the way). When you finally reach Low Borrowdale Farm there are a further 336 acres of grounds to admire. The pitching area is next to Borrow Beck, a quiet beck where you can take a dip, paddle and play when the weather is fine.

The many outdoor activities of the Lake District are the major draw here, of course, but that's not all – if you're after more, you may like to know that the Yorkshire Dales and Westmorland Dales are also close by…

This is a no-frills spot with just portaloos in terms of facilities (so you'll need to bring your own drinking water). If you need a shower, it's a short drive down to Tebay's service stations (north and south), a mile away – just take your soap and towel along and ask at the till.

It's also good to know that barbecues are allowed here; if you need supplies, stock up in advance, as it's more than a 20-minute drive to the nearest large supermarket.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campground/park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, July 1, 2021.

Single-sex bookings of 5 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

There are no garbage cans onsite: all garbage will need to be taken home with you.

This park has no on-site shower facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Low-slung cars and vans will find the track up to the site unsuitable, it is recommended that you consider parking at the council car park at the valley entrance (1.5 miles away) instead.

Romantic, relaxing, remote and stunning scenery. No noise or light pollution, just sheep and a visiting few farm ducks. One called Richard

    Disliked:

2 miles of very rugged lane to get to it

From the manager...

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and we really love your photo of Richard! The track is 1/2 mile tarmac to start (which is in terrible condition.. I am madly chasing the council!) and then 1 mile of rough bridleway track to the site. :-D
