  • Peaceful Cumbria site on the bank of the River Lune
  • A five-minute drive to Sedbergh; 20 minutes to Kendal
  • In the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with easy access to M6
Lovely long walk, followed by a little dip in the river? If that sounds like a rather fine way to spend a day, take the plunge at River View Campsite, where you can round off a day of Yorkshire Dales hiking with a paddle in the River Lune – it runs right past the pitches, so no need to travel far to cool your feet. Getting out on those walks should be straightforward too, as there are plenty of public paths in the surrounding area, including one that runs along the banks of the river for scenic strolls. Lots more routes (packed with views and wildlife to spot) are all around, and should you tire of the Dales views it might be handy to note that the Lake District National Park isn’t far away…) This is a place that has the real feel of a remote and secluded spot – but it’s also rather well connected, as its Killington location is handy for the nearby A683 and the M6 three miles away. The closest town, Sedbergh, is also three miles away for a good collection of shops (including a butcher, veg shop and ice cream parlour as well as the famed book shops). It’s also got several pubs and places to eat, and there are more pubs to keep an eye out for as you roam around the Cumbria countryside. Back at base everything’s been set up to give you a sense of wild camping on the spacious and simple pitches, but you’ll have access to portable toilets.
