What customers say

Lovely peaceful natural site with friendly owners. Good value, fire pits & useful communal facilities (kettle, fridge, microwave). Facilities basic, a bit of a walk for some. Occasional noise, needs better signage. Many would return.

Unpowered concrete slab campervan site

Liked I really enjoyed my pitstop at Howdy. The campsite is very nicely laid out and the available facilities are excellent. The shower and toilet was clean and a small common room is provided to allow phone charging, access to a microwave, and a fridge freezer. I was fortunate to enjoy the panoramic views from the campsite on a lovely sunny evening. The glamping looks fabulous - I will most definitely visit again!

Disliked Not much to dislike really! I had stopped off enroute to a wedding in Scotland so didn’t explore the local area. I didn’t use the wifi so can’t comment on that.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked My second visit and the new shed by camping is an added bonus. Good basic camping with a few extras (kettle etc.) a short walk away by the shower and toilet. Nice little site with a very slight slope with trees around for shade, plenty of picnic benches and fire pits.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Nice remote area and short walk to a local pub around 10-15mins on back lane then small village road was quite quiet. It also has a sink setup in the main camp and some power sockets for phones. While in the main toilet block a short walk you have fridge, 2 toilets and 1 shower will not the strongest pressure was a nice to have the option it still worked sufficiently to shower.

Disliked Nothing

Local attractions

The ruins of 13th-century Brougham Castle (15 minutes’ drive) occupy a pretty spot on the banks of the River Eamont and have far-reaching views of the Eden Valley. An elegant and imposing façade is all that remains of Lowther Castle (15 minutes), built in the early 1800s. The gardens here include landscaped areas, wildflower meadows and woodland, as well as an adventure playground. Independent shops and cafés line the cobbled streets of the historic town of Penrith (20 minutes). The remains of a medieval fortress overlook Castle Park, where you can stroll among rose gardens or have a picnic on the lawn while the children let off some steam in the playground. Ullswater (20 minutes) is the second-largest lake in the Lake District. Explore its wooded banks on foot (there’s a spectacular trail following the eastern shore, from Howtown to Glenridding), hop on a cruise or hire a canoe or paddleboard from any of the waterfront outfits.
