Unpowered grass tent site
Liked: We had a warm welcome at Gill Head Farm, with chickens running around the yard and an inviting reception. The view from the tent was magnificent and we watched the sun go down over the mountains as we prepared our beds for the night. We were lucky enough to be there on a Friday when a local pizza business makes delicious pizzas fresh on site. The communal room has board games, a TV, toaster, microwave, kettle etc. as well as Wi-Fi and somewhere to charge your phone. The showers and toilet block were clean, pleasant and had a hairdryer station.
Disliked: As you can probably tell from its location, you can hear the main road from the site but not enough for it to disturb you in the night. Just worth being aware of if youâre seeking ultimate tranquility. If coming by foot, worth being aware that a taxi to either Keswick or Penrith is around ÂŁ30 but taxi drivers seem familiar with the location of the farm. We would have been more tempted to have a campfire if the fire pit hire charge was a bit lower. Once you added on wood etc it seemed expensive.

Camping pod (no pets)
Liked: We enjoyed the view as you can look over at Blencathra and we had the most amazing views. It is equidistant between Penrith and Keswick. They were very friendly if we needed anything and the pod was warm.
Disliked: It was not a problem for us but there is no mobile data or WiFi if that is soemthing important to you. There is no option for a double bed in the pods and you cannot move to beds as they are mounted to the walls.

Camping pod
Liked: Campsite is fantastic, amazing additional facilities in the lounge type room, play area & waterfall walk on site. Pod was fab, warm & cosy and in a great position to see the play area & field to supervise our children whilst they played. In a great location to visit nearby Keswick, Penrith and Ullswater. Staff were friendly and grounds & facilities well maintained & clean. One of our favourite campsites having visited before with our tent.
