  • Family- and dog-friendly farm campsite near Knutsford in Cheshire
  • A 15-minute drive to Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre; Chester 40 minutes
  • Covered kitchen on site; two pubs and a shop less than a mile away
Greenfields Campsite is found on a Cheshire farm, close to the buzzy little town of Knutsford, and it’s a top choice for anyone wanting to combine an outdoorsy type holiday with mooching around historic attractions. There are lakeside walks at Farmwood Pool (15 minutes’ drive), and the kids can run off energy on the orienteering course in Marbury Country Park (20 minutes). If you have the odd rainy day (this being England), you can resort to the indoor swimming pool in Northwich (15 minutes). How about journeying up a hydraulic lift on the Weaver river at the Anderton Boat Lift Visitor Centre (20 minutes), or getting up close to the star-gazing Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre (15 minutes)? A 40-minute drive takes you to the walled city of Chester, where you can beat the bookies at a race meeting, explore the Gothic-era cathedral or treat the kids to a day at the zoo. The village of Lower Peover (two minutes' drive/15 minutes' walk) has a handy shop and two pubs serving excellent food and beers. You can also source picnic treats of fresh bread, sandwiches and cakes from the handy village shop in Goostrey (10 minutes' drive). Knutsford (also 10 minutes) is the spot for nosing around trendy boutiques, and it’s got more than its fair share of posh pubs and cafés if you fancy a night out. Dogs are very welcome – in fact, your canine chums are so welcome that they get their own doggy welcome pack – the kids get the complimentary marshmallows to roast around the campfire though. The owners provide a covered kitchen and washing-up area with hot water, so you can get creative on the barbecue.

Liked: Great facilities, owners are very nice. Nice site and a huge area for the kids to play on. Got a text a few days before coming to tell us about them. Offered marshmallows for the kids and a treat for the dogs. Put out group together and reserved our spots so we didn’t have to rush to get out together.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Large, flat field with individual fire pits. Quirky toilets, shower and washing up area. Lovely young lady came round with treats for the dogs and marshmallows to toast on the fire. She sold us wood, kindle and firelighters, very reasonable.

Disliked: Wish the toilets were closer as being 63 it was a bit of a trek to go in the dark. Quite a lot of dead grass cuttings on field which caused a bit of a problem. See photo.

Liked: Toilets was lovely and clean shower was ok water was warm but would change hot and cold if someone flushed the toilet. However very clean overall unlike other places we have visited . The family is lovely and brought us marshmallows and made sure we had wood each pitch had a campfire so you could have your own fire dogs allowed and not eaten verily busy or crowded as you are all around the outside of the field the electric didn’t go off once which was perfect and worked fine. Would recommend.

Disliked: Only thing I would say is the showers going cold is someone flushed the toilet and also one toilet you have to duck to get into the trailer and there is a step!

Liked: Used this site for an overnight stay to break up a long journey as it's close to the M6. Great little site. Loved the free marshmallows and dog treats. Nice bathrooms and washing up area. Whole site was neat, tidy and clean. Lovely firepits. Was recommended the local pub "The Bells of Peaover" for dinner which was excellent. There's also a really well stocked local shop open every day 7am to 9.30pm. Perfect and good value too.
