  • Back-to-basics flower meadow camping on a working Northumberland farm
  • Edging Northumberland National Park; Alnwick Castle 30 minutes’ drive
  • Wild camping with moorland walks from site and cycling routes close by
Alnham Farm Campsite is located on a family-run farm deep in rural Northumberland. The secluded camping field has views to the Cheviot foothills on the edge of the spectacular Northumberland National Park, and it’s a smashing base for families keen to explore countryside and the North Sea coastline. Walkers can disappear off into the national park, with bridle paths and hiking trails leading from the site to wild moorland and impressive waterfalls. Bikers have it good here too, as the camping field is adjacent to the National Cycle Route 68, running north to Berwick-upon-Tweed. As well as beaches – sandy Druridge Bay (45 minutes’ drive) has miles of space for kids to run around on – this is the land of majestic castles, with wild cows at Chillingham, plus a poison garden and Harry Potter film locations at Alnwick (both 30 minutes) making smashing days out with the kids. It's an off-grid setup here: the site has spacious pitches with basic facilities including running water and portable toilets. There is no electricity so a torch should definitely be on the list of packing essentials, but as this part of Northumberland is in a dark-skies park, you’ll be able to study the Milky Way glittering far above on clear nights. Handily, firepits are available for hire on site if you fear getting chilly while you stargaze (and each one comes with a good bag of logs too).

Please note
  • This campground/park has no on-site shower facilities.
  • Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.
  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).
  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.
  • If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.
  • Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.
  • Please be aware there is an electric fence dividing the field from grazing sheep; this is very well signed and does not detract from the site.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Perfect location and very peaceful. The location is classed as wild camping as there are no facilities apart from a toilet. It was perfect for us as we wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle. No signal, no phones, which again was an added bonus. We’ll be visiting again.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: A great place to explore Northumberland from. The site is well off the beaten track, at the foot of the national park, surrounded by rolling hills. A big field with only 8 or 10 pitches in so plenty of space, and nice and and flat. Facilities are basic and kept clean, portaloos and a tap for washing up, so off to the beach or a river for a swim to refresh. The owners were very welcoming, gave us recommendations for the area and were happy to refreeze our ice packs.

Disliked: Cows could be a bit noisy

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked: I love this site. It's a basic site, but please don't take this to mean it's bad. The toilets are clean, the pitches are huge.... So plenty of space to spread out. We hired a fire pit and it just made a lovely peaceful night listening to the cows mooing. Fab! We would definitely visit again
