  • Simple rural site with gorgeous views of the North Yorkshire coastline
  • A five-minute drive to Hayburn Wyke beach; 15 minutes to Scarborough
  • Pre-erected tents with bedding; farm shop and pubs a short drive away
Sitting on hilltops on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Yorkshire Coast Glamping is a tiny site with pre-erected bell tents and truly spectacular views to Scarborough and the sea. Up here, you’ll wake up every morning to the gentle sound of birdsong – and those glorious coastline views. This quiet, rural site is set a few minutes’ walk from the traffic-free Cleveland Way and (even better) 10 minutes from a pub. On top of that, the field is within easy strolling distance (25 minutes) of the coast, where the dramatic Hayburn Wyke waterfall makes a pretty backdrop for picnics, walks and seaside adventures. It’s a five-minute drive from the spacious pitches into Cloughton village, where a couple more pubs and a farm shop are on hand to keep you fed and watered during your stay. For supermarkets and a raft of restaurants, steer yourself towards Scarborough (15 minutes). On such a small site, you’ll get unhindered access to the facilities: a communal toilet and shower block with heated power showers and loo facilities so that you can keep looking and feeling your best. There's also an outdoor pot-washing station and phone charging facilities. As for the tents themselves: they’re new every season, with insulating ground sheets and coir matting to up the cosiness factor. All bedding, crockery and cooking equipment is provided, and if you forget anything, the owners are just a phone call away.

Once you pass a lay-by on your left-hand side, look for a farm track on the left with a sign for 'Hulley's'. If you reach the entrance for the Hayburn Wyke Inn, turn around and come back on yourself; the track will be the first on the right.

Local attractions

First stop is the beach. The pebble cove at Hayburn Wyke is a 25-minute walk away. Second stop is probably going to be the North Yorkshire Moors National Park (10 minutes’ drive) for walks around the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey (one hour 10 minutes) or mountain biking through pine woods from Dalby Forest Visitors Centre (40 minutes). Build a trip to Scarborough (15 minutes) into the schedule too. Britain’s first-ever seaside resort is an old-fashioned sort of place, with donkey rides, amusement arcades and souvenir stalls selling sticks of rock. The kids can run around on two sandy beaches and there’s a well-stocked fishing lake at Oliver’s Mount, overlooking the town. Whitby (25 minutes) is another must-see town, with fish and chips shops and a buzzy harbour. And this part of North Yorkshire is peppered with other sights too – think Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (50 minutes) with its nesting birds, tours of an historic country pile at Sewerby Hall and Gardens (50 minutes) – and Flamingo Land Resort (45 minutes) for thrill rides and happy kids.

Bell tent (small)

Liked: As always, tent was clean and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The host Josanne is very pleasant and makes sure you have everything you need. New toilet block is a great improvement. Within walking distance to some great pubs and also Hayburn Wyke Waterfall.

Disliked: Camping has moved to another field so view of coastline and sea is not as good. No campfire circles like there was in previous field! Nowhere to store food (i.e. coolbox) as in previous visits.
