There are many things to like about The Bungalow Caravan Site – besides its charming owners Andrew and Sonia. Top of the list must surely be the location: this quiet adults-only site sits in the Ouse valley, surrounded by open countryside and yet a mere 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of York. This handy setting makes it a cinch to get out and explore the local area, whether you’re aiming to take city days, visit market towns and villages or wander through the countryside (the rural ramble to the tearooms in Moreby village is particularly recommended). Getting out and about is easy even if you don’t fancy the drive: there are woodland walks to be had right by the site, and there’s a bus stop with regular services at the entrance to the site where you can flag down a ride into the city. The Bungalow Caravan Site also has bicycles for hire should you want to pedal along the trails to York and Selby. Touring pitches here are all kitted out for all-season use, and each has access to a 16-amp hookup (there are no toilets or showers though, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient on that front). Dogs are welcome on site, but they’ll need to be kept on a lead at all times.

Liked: Met at the gate by Andrew who explained where everything was and walked us to the pitch and ensured we were happy with it. Grey waste disposal on pitch and electric/fresh water within reach. Lovely view over a field of crops. Very well maintained. One of the cleanest elsan points I've come across. Site itself was quiet and peaceful although being such a warm weekend there was noise from surrounding roads of motorbikers giving it the beans....(Which I like). Will definitely return.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Liked: Met at the gate by the owner Andy who was very helpful and showed us to our lovely pitch. The grounds are extremely well maintained and the pitches are very flat and spacious. The site is brilliant for those peaceful countryside getaways with the added bonus of being 20 minutes bus ride to York. Bus stops directly outside the site. Electric hookups are close to the pitches . Enough fresh water points and a spotlessly clean Elsan point. Information hut provides info on things to do and places to go. We enjoyed our 2 night stopover so much, it's on our radar to visit again . Give this site a try, you will not be disappointed 👍

Liked: Friendly welcome. Ehu on pitch, bins and elsan point available. No drive over waste. We were adjacent to the road, noisy during the day but not bad at night. Maybe get here earlier if poss to get pitch the other side. Happy to stop again.

Local attractions

To get out and about locally, there’s fishing available less than half a mile away, and horse riding two miles away; you could also easily head up to Naburn Marina (three miles away), where there’s boat hire and a café, or go for a stroll around Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens (five minutes’ drive). For more rural escapades, head over to Burnby Hall Gardens (half an hour) to wander through the Victorian Garden and Secret Garden and walk by the lakes – at their very best in midsummer, when more than 100 varieties of water lilies burst into bloom. A trip on the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (40 minutes) is a splendid way to see some more of the local scenery. Up for some urban time? York (15 minutes’ drive or bus ride) is top of the list for most – for minster visits, river cruises and shopping on The Shambles – but it’s worth taking a look at Selby (15 minutes) and Leeds (40 minutes) too if you’ve got a little more time on your hands.
