What customers say

Great Yorkshire Dales views, peaceful stay. Immaculately clean, modern facilities, super friendly staff, spacious pitches. Ideal for walkers with direct routes. Popular cafe & alpacas are a bonus. A bit tricky for larger vehicles.

Liked Lovely site, perfect for tents and campervans. Tiered as its on a hillside but pitches are flat

Disliked A little tight for our motorhome.
Not many toilets considering size of site and most people being in tents.

Liked Lovely views, great wildlife and good amenities. Pitches are well enough spaced that you’re not on top of each other. Loved having access to a bench by the pitch, made life easier.

Disliked Partial dislike- our pitch was at the bottom, so next to a wall. Great for a wind block, but did impede the view a little.

Liked This was my second stay here and it was just as I remember. Facilities are modern and spotless. Morning coffee and pastries were very welcome. Very peaceful during the day, quiet at night. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The midges were out in force due to the weather but firepits were available to hire so this helped.

Liked Absolutely stunning location with beautiful local walk to the pub (this walk is 40 mins not 30 like they said and you need to be fit to do it) highly recommend it if you can.
Nice pubs you can drive to, near the cave experience was fun.
Clean shower and toilet.
Skipton was nice but again not as close as they say it is.
Good for families.
Really liked the wildlife around it and you get sun all day.
Despite listing the negatives some of these are not in their control and I would still recommend the site but I would only book a bigger pitch and shorter stay that was out of Season time if I was return.

Disliked Pitches not level making sleeping in a bed really uncomfortable and hurt our backs.
Not enough toilets and showers during peak times leading cues in morning especially for the toilet and that led to a lack of privacy and an unpleasant experience in the women's loo with it smelling at times.
Pitches are small and not cheap, a medium pitch is a small at best.
Mosquito bites were a massive problem, we spoke to a lot of people who were also eaten alive.
A lot of children but that's to be expected with summer holidays but be aware of that.
Because of the pictures were small we were very close to the dirt track, everyone that drives past it lifted up the dirt and covered our whole tent making it very dusty.
Lovely site but needs some small improvements unfortunately some of these are out of their control.

Liked Everything! What a beautiful location the site is in. Clean facilities, even though peak season never had to wait for a shower or loo, they were always immaculate. Reception had essentials for sale (nearest shop 8 mile away). The staff were all amazing, very helpful and friendly. Wash up areas, communal fridge freezers, whole site spotlessly clean. Tasty drinks and croissants available on a morning too.

The Brownie barn near by is highly recommended, we sampled breakfasts, brownies, unreal pizzas, plenty of prosecco and lager.

Area:
Plenty of walks, dog friendly ones down the snicket on the road in, the walks up over toward Simons seat and Valley of desolation didn't allow dogs. The campsite has a secure dog area which ours loved.
We walked along the river to Grassington (3 hour plus walk for us and 2 dogs), easy to navigate. Stopped of in Burnsall which was lovely.

Another walk just from the site took us into Bolton Abbey estate, along the river passed Barden tower and into Strid wood which was amazing. Pubs in Appletreewick (25 min walk) were very nice and busy, friendly atmosphere.

Trollers Gill and onto Grimwith reservoir was a fab walk, the campsite has loads of info on walks, maps and routes are really well sign posted too.

Tips: Hire a firepit, we were amongst the trees (pitch 19)and surrounded by bugs which were biters.
Book in at the local pubs if you are wanting food (busy August).

We camp a few times every year and have been to many places, this is one we can't wait to visit again.

Local attractions

If one morning you feel inspired to go strolling, there’s no need to pack up the car. The path to Simon's Seat (half an hour’s walk to the top) is barely a couple minutes' stroll from the site and has simply grand views of the Yorkshire Dales. Carry on rambling into the surrounding moors, where there’s a waterfall dubbed ‘the valley of desolation’. There’s not much desolation around, but there is a gorgeous waterfall and a pool to wade in. A short drive will get you to local villages or towns like Grassington (20 minutes' drive), which has art galleries, a cobbled market square and e-bike hire, and Skipton (20 minutes), which has a castle and heaps of eateries. Another good outing is the Stump Cross Caverns (10 minutes). Discovered by lead miners in the mid 1860s, the cave complex has a cinema and exhibits including prehistoric remains of wolverine and reindeer. The caverns have a hilltop walk, but if you’re still in the mood for more good walks, excellent trails include those around the half-mile-long limestone gorge at Troller's Gill (10 minutes) and Rylstone Cross (25 minutes).
