  • Biker site by a café bar, open since the 1970s
  • Café open daily with weekly and weekend biker meets
  • Sunday roast, weekly carvery and licensed bar
‘Run by bikers for bikers’ goes the tagline of the roaringly popular Squires Café Bar in Selby, North Yorkshire, which has been rallying – and fortifying – biker troops since the 1970s. Bike and club meets, regular events and live music, an on-site bike shop and a once-monthly Autojumble to pick up secondhand bike gear have all been lined up over the years by owners Harry and Sue, who ran the biker-friendly Squires Milk Bar at Sherburn-in-Elmet before moving here. Café prices at Squires are cheap as chips (which you can have with gravy and stuffed inside a giant Yorkshire pud); for something a bit posher, a carvery of the café’s own farm-reared Aberdeen Angus is available for Sunday roast and on Thursday evenings; and for pints/events, a licensed bar and an events room for hire are available too. Squires Café Bar is open seven days a week in summer, but it’s on Wednesdays and weekends that regulars roar up: Wednesdays following the local biker meet tradition started by Harry and Sue in the 1960s, and weekends for meets, charity events, live gigs and general lounging about in leathers. To preserve the grass areas of the site, the owners allow the use of off-ground barbecues, but not one that will damage the grass. Campfires are not allowed.

What customers say

Squires Cafe Bar Campsite: a fave with bikers. Spacious, level pitches. Friendly staff, good value food, lively vibe. Facilities clean but dated. Train noise an issue for some. Very welcoming for families and dogs.

Motorcycle and tent only unpowered grass tent site (no cars)

Liked Booking my pitch was a simple, straight forward process with immediate confirmation sent to me.
Booking in at the site was also simple and straight forward.

Disliked Only the toilets on the upper field were in use, this made it quite hard for me as I had to negotiate an incline on the way there and back down again - that being said it’s only an issue for me as I am disabled and use a walking aid, any able bodied person would probably not have an issue and I guess you’re not being disturbed through the night if they were closer.
Unfortunately there weren’t any plots closer for me to use.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Really good sized pitches, the staff all friendly as were the campers that live on the site. Facilities were good, could have been a bit cleaner but we stayed the weekend of the Leeds festival so probably busier than usual. Saying that, I have been to sites at big holiday sites and they have been worse!
Showers and electric good value for money. Only £5 for electric hookup and that lasted us 2 days and nights, van plugged in constantly with TV, fridge, charges etc and no issues.

Cafe bar good value too. Although we had all our own food we did pop in for a meal one evening and it was nice.

Disliked Nothing really. The train is a bit annoying tooting its horn everytime it goes past but you get used to it.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Love it! We went Leeds fest and it was quite close to it but still far out too, loved the constant bike commotion although it is all at the pub and you can hardly hear the bikes at the camp site which is just up hill from it. Very nice and friendly environment. Never had to queue up for the toilets or showers even on social hours in the morning. Toilets and showers clean, didn’t shower but sink and toilets were clean and good pressure. Food at the pub was also really good. Would recommend for any stop overs or anyone who want to look at some cool bikes on a summers day.
The shower rooms were accessibility friendly, and there’s ramps rather than stairs mostly everywhere. Camp was super dog friendly, they have a dog field and also since the camp area wasn’t too busy there was still enough room for dogs to run around near your camping area. Camping areas assigned are huge, enough to fit a camper and seating area outside, basically double the space needed.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Relaxed, decent facilities, very friendly, great food in the cafe, loads of space and bikes galore!! Also very dog friendly. You can do a nice walk Lotherton Hall if you fancy it too

Disliked There is a HV pylon running through the field but the field is massive so you can camp well away if you don't like that. There is a train line close by too but they don't run late at night or early in morning so didn't find it disturbing.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Plenty of room and close to the A1.

Disliked The toilets are in extremely poor conditions especially the men’s. There was a huge hole in the floor next to the toilet making it unusable and dangerous. Dogs were left unattended and going to the toilet around the campsite. Overall campsite seemed run down and not very well maintained. Definitely not with the £24 (without electric) we were charged.

Local attractions

Squires Café Bar is well placed for the Yorkshire coast and both the Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors national parks, about 10 miles from Leeds city centre and with York within biking distance for a day trip. On fine and sunny days, ramble/bike along, fish from or take a boat out on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the longest in Northern England, or take a picnic to the 1500 acres of parkland at Temple Newsam House and Farm, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots’s caddish hubby Lord Darnley and listed as one of the top three museum sites in the country by an author in the know. Xscape Yorkshire is a nifty nearby option for rainy days or indoor evenings, as it’s crammed with activities such as Laserzone and adventure golf, restaurants, bars, clubs, a cinema and shops (the outlet shopping village Junction 32 is just opposite). Further afield, the Doncaster Dome has a seven-pool waterworld and the UK's only split level ice rink – you’ll have had loads of practice by then at the Squires Café Bar rink…
