  • Immaculately maintained heated shower/toilet block with makeup area
  • Licensed shop, café, launderette, caravan spares and gas for sale
The Pickering people have it sorted. The Vale of Pickering Caravan Park is crammed with trees, shrubs and flowerbeds and it has views over the North Yorkshire countryside, plus washrooms you'd want to find anywhere. The heated toilets and showers are immaculate, there are private wash cubicles, an electric point for those all-important hairdryers and hair straighteners, and even a ladies’ makeup area. Best of all, there are ladies’ and gents’ baths – providing a long hot soak after a long hard day relaxing and sightseeing. There are first-class facilities on site too, including a well-stocked licensed shop, a launderette, caravan spares and gas cylinders, a play area and a football pitch for the kids. The café is a real highlight too, selling tea, coffee and plenty of homebaked goodies including croissants and breakfast items, sourced locally from the area wherever possible. A pub is about two and a half miles away for food, or you can pick up some fresh local produce at the nearby farmers’ market. Thornton Dale (four miles away) also has two traditional pubs so you won't be short of choice when it comes to satisfying all tastes and tums.

Liked: Pitches were ok, but the gravel is too hard compacted, tried to put up awning, normally 10mins, here 40, bent my rock pegs, had to keep trying to straighten them, people had no etiquette about pitches, let kids run anywhere they liked, including right Infront of awning, and around caravan until i had to tell them, electric kept tripping out, at least four times a day, nice cafe, good prices, nice shower/toilet block, but do not agree with having tents near caravan, should be on a grass area on there own, and it was not a quiet site as described too many screaming/shouting kids.

Disliked: As above.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked: Facilities are top notch. Finished to a good standard and kept very clean. Unisex facilities very good too and you can even have a bath for a pound. Shop is very reasonably priced and covers all the basics and the little bits that can easily be forgotten. Fish and chips on a Wednesday is a must but get there early as a small queue will form around ten minutes before 7pm Safe and secure campsite with nice play area and football pitch.

Disliked: Zero complaints at all

Liked: Lovely peaceful site, immaculate facilities, pitches are a perfect size for caravan, awning and car to be kept. Even though the site was nearly full it wasn’t loud or busy. Beautiful surroundings not too far away, shop had fresh eggs, sausages bread cakes etc each day which where lovely, pizza night and the chip van was a great addition. Wi-Fi was excellent too managed to get Netflix on tv to watch a family movie after a hard day at falling foss waterfall (must see) throughly enjoyed out stay will be returning asap thankyou to the owners/staff who do an amazing job of maintaining and generally running a peaceful, relaxing beautiful site ❤️

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site (large)

Liked: Beautiful clean site for caravans mainly, Very nice shower / toilet block, probably the best I've ever seen on a site. Freezer for ice packs only.

Disliked: Very expensive, £66 for 2 nights camping with no electric for a two man tent.. I'm still amazed I paid it ! Camping field had no character, just a square flat field. Long distance to walk for the toilet in the night. Luke warm showers & very high pressure due to a tiny shower head, it hurt on the scalp it was so small & powerful !

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for leaving us a review and your feedback. You booked a large tent pitch for the 2 nights and i'm sure you would have to agree that you had lovely open space as your photo shows. We do not overcrowd like many places. We will monitor the high pressure that you have mentioned within the shower facility.

Local attractions

Trainspotters and sightseers alike will be chuff-chuffed at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to take visitors on a steam-rollering 18 miles through the moors, with rural villages along the route – Goathland was used as Hogsmeade in the first Harry Potter film and as Aidensfield in ITV’s Heartbeat – and with plenty of opportunities to hop off and go hiking o’er the moors. The North York Moors National Park has walking and cycling routes galore, with other sporty options near the Vale of Pickering taking in tennis, golf, horse-riding, sailing, mountain biking, fishing and watersports at Wykeham Lakes, or cantering at Snainton Riding Centre. Savvy shoppers should sally to the nearby market towns of Pickering and Malton, or head towards York to spend the day at the Monks Cross Shopping Centre two miles from the city centre. And once the wallet is somewhat lighter, other recommended and less expensive days out in the area include taking in the World War II museum at Eden Camp, seeing the historic buildings at the Ryedale Folk Museum, or going to one of the many events at the Baroque mansion Castle Howard. A visit to this neck of the woods wouldn’t be complete without a day at the seaside – visitors can stroll on the sands at fantastic Whitby, flit around Filey, browse through Bridlington or spend days at the country’s first ever seaside resort of Scarborough with its Italian gardens, miniature steam railway, casino, clifftop castle and kid-clamouring for seaside amusements. Kids will also love the nearby theme park and zoo Flamingo Land, making like a monkey on the zip wires at Go Ape! or getting grisly at the York Dungeons after the big folk take in the architecture of York Minster and the history of the Jorvik Centre.
