  • Peaceful rural site in Ryedale, three miles from Malton
  • Within a 45-minute drive of York, the North York Moors and the coast
  • Large lake on site for fishing and wildlife spotting
Ooh, what a treat for fishing folk… waking up on a peaceful pitch and having but a few metres to stroll down to the lake’s edge for a spot to cast your rod into the waters: what a civilised way to spend an hour or few... And what of treats for non-fishing folk? Plenty of those are in supply at Brickyard Lakes Country Park too, if you’re the type who likes a serene spot in which to relax and watch the birds, rabbits and other beasties going about their business. (Previous guests have spotted more than 20 bird species and seven varieties of dragonfly here, along with glimpses of passing roe deer and weasels – definitely worth packing the binoculars before you set off.) Much more lies beyond as well, as this Ryedale location is mighty convenient for all manner of days out. City wanderings in York, rural rambles in the North York Moors and days by the seaside are all within a 45-minute drive, as are plenty of gorgeous gardens and historic places to drop into on your sightseeing travels. You’ll do well around these parts if you like to eat too, for foodie fave Malton is less than 10 minutes away by car – head down here for top-notch restaurants or supplies for pitchside eats.

Local attractions

If you’d like to get a bit more active out in the fresh air, it’ll take you around 20 minutes or so to get up to the North York Moors for hikes, bike rides, horse riding and watersports. More rambles can be had in Dalby Forest or along the coast from seaside towns such as Scarborough or Whitby – all are within a 45-minute drive. Those who like their days out to have a cultural tint will do well around these parts too: Castle Howard is 10 minutes away by car, and Rievaulx Abbey, Ryedale Folk Museum and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum are all within half an hour. Not strictly falling under the cultural banner but still rather splendid is Flamingo Land, 10 minutes from Brickyard Lakes. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you’re highly recommended to take it along to Malton, three miles away and dubbed Yorkshire’s Food Capital for its range of street food markets, cookery schools and other foodie treats, including a rather enticing gin festival.
