  • Scarborough, Castle Howard and Dalby Forest within a half-hour drive
  • Coarse fishing lake, play area and games room on site
In search of a convenient spot to park your caravan for an excellent range of North Yorkshire days out? Pick a pitch at Eastgate Caravan Site, a small and well-maintained touring site in the peaceful village of East Heslerton. This family-friendly site is handily placed close to the A64 for easy journeys to all sorts of attractions including trips east to the seaside at Scarborough and Filey or south-west to York. The Howardian Hills, Yorkshire Wolds and North York Moors National Park are close by for hikers and bike riders to explore, and there are several places to get out for a game of golf nearby too. You can even get started on the outdoor activity right here on site by bringing your rod along to try your luck in the coarse fishing lake. A play area is on hand for the younger kids too, along with a games room with snooker table for older guests. Barbecues are permitted on site, so pick up supplies from the food shop a couple of miles away or head to Malton (15 minutes’ drive) to see what sort of local produce you can source from the market. Facilities on site include showers and toilets (maintained daily), a chemical disposal point and recycling facilities. Dogs are welcome to join you on site as long as they’re kept on a lead. Please note that this site is next to the Scarborough to York railway line. Trains run daily from 6am to 10:30pm, with steam services also on offer throughout July and August.

Liked: Great quiet little site fishing pond only a short walk from the pitches we never fished but I did have a walk round and it looks great and well maintained. Sheep and pigs and chickens to look at. staff very friendly and helpful The east takeaway delivers to the site also so bonus All in all a nice well maintained site

Disliked: Only one shower and two toilets but we never had a problem getting to either. Train tracks run next to the site but you soon don't notice them going by

Liked: Absolutely lovely little campsite. Really chilled out. Sue and Dave the owners are so friendly and welcoming. There is a great play area for young kids not too far from the pitches so they can go up there and you always feel they are safe. They have pigs, sheep and chickens on the site which my kids loved seeing, along with go karts, bikes, scooters and much more. Toilets and showers are clean and there is a selection of books and dvd’s to browse as well. My kids loved seeing the trains go by right next to the train track and there are 2 fences between so again they are safe. Would 100% recommend this site. It’s about half an hours drive to Scarborough, and there are a couple nice shops and bakery’s close by. There is loads of room between pitches so you don’t feel cramped. The regulars who have caravans on the site all year round are really lovely and friendly as well.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing

Local attractions

If you’re in the area for the fresh air, you’ve got lots of choices for days out. Perhaps head to the fabulous North Yorkshire coast for days in Filey (20 minutes’ drive), Scarborough (25 minutes) or Whitby (45 minutes), or take your binoculars out for a day of birdwatching at RSPB Bempton Cliffs (35 minutes). Alternatively, stay inland for mountain bike rides in Dalby Forest (25 minutes) or hikes through the stunning North York Moors National Park. The North Yorkshire Water Park (20 minutes) is another fun option for those who’d like to bound across a floating assault course, and there are a couple of golf courses within a 10-minute drive too. Meanwhile, those who like flower-filled views should take a look at Scampston Walled Garden and Woldies Nature & Lavender Farm (both 10 minutes). If you like to include a bit of history and culture on your holidays, plan trips to the magnificent Castle Howard (25 minutes) and the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey (45 minutes). More recent history is on display at Eden Camp Modern History Museum (15 minutes), on the site of a former prisoner of war camp, and there's always plenty to see and do in York (35 minutes).
