  • Simple woodland and meadow site near Pocklington, East Yorkshire
  • Five minutes’ drive to Allerthorpe Lakeland Park; York half an hour
  • Hot tub and firepits for hire, plus a garden room with games
This is no-frills East Yorkshire camping with bonuses, for The Spinney Wild Camping sits on a nine-acre site consisting of oak woodland and open meadow, with plenty of room for dogs (on leads) and kids (no leads required) to have a run around – plus it’s close to all manner of watersports and country walks at Allerthorpe (fIve minutes’ drive). On arrival at this laid-back spot, there’s another bonus: you can choose where to pitch up, either in a woodland glade or on the mown field. At this point, please note the site is off-grid, so torches are essential – although there is running water and a simple compost toilet, a separate urinal and a pot-washing area with cold water available. Yet more bonuses of a stay at The Spinney include the garden room, complete with a sofa, blankets and games, so you can cosy up in inclement weather (this is England), and when the sun shines, you can hire the hot tub and watch the stars come up with something chilled in hand. Firepits are available for hire too (note that you're not permitted to bring your own firepit or fuel), so you can get down to some barbecuing, but otherwise, there are plenty of local country pubs if you fancy a change of scenery.

What customers say

A top-rated, peaceful campsite with a 'nearly wild' vibe. Expect spotless eco-loos, hot showers, private pitches in woodland/meadow, and friendly hosts. Kids and adults love the natural setting, hammocks, and farm animals. Perfect for a relaxing, back-to-nature break.

Liked Excellent communication from first booking. Such a lovely welcome as we pulled up. Walked us around the site explained the facilities and we could choose where we wanted to pitch. Huge wheel barrow to take all our gear to the pitch we chose. Compost toilets scandi style and wash facilities, were cleaner than most pub and restaurants 🙂 lovely summer house with seats, blankets and board games, a couple of hammocks between the trees. We pitched under a huge oak tree and hired a fire pit that included the logs. Evening the on site piggies and hens were welcoming . Our black lab loved it. Beautiful well kept woodland and meadows, everything had been thought of. Only a 30 minute drive for us, so can't believe we hadn't found this little gem sooner.

Disliked Absolutely nothing.

Liked EVERYTHING! The kids loved the hammocks and making new friends and the adults enjoyed the peace and tranquility of being away from life. Neil and Cherie are fantastic hosts who want to make sure that everyone gets a relaxing break. The pigs were a real hit and both kids and adults in our group loved going to see them and give them a scratch behind their ears

Disliked Packing up and coming home
