  • Family-oriented County Durham glampsite on the edge of Shildon
  • Locomotion railway museum 20 minutes’ walk; Durham 25 minutes' drive
  • Restaurant and fishing lakes on site; private hot tub for each unit
Take it easy in the County Durham countryside – everything at Eden Grange Glamping has been set up with relaxing family breaks in mind. Whether you’re stopping over for a night to break up a journey on the A1(M) or using the place as a base for a longer stay, you’ll be made to feel very welcome at this comfortable site on the edge of Shildon (five minutes’ drive, or a 15-minute walk). There’s a laidback rural atmosphere on site, with each of the glamping units surrounded by trees and overlooking lakes where you can go fishing. However, the centre of town is only just over a mile away, so you’ll be within easy reach of shops, places to eat and things to do, including the leisure centre, the heritage trail, walks in Hackworth Park and events at the civic hall or the local football club. You can also walk to Locomotion, part of the National Railway Museum, in about 20 minutes. A restaurant on site serves up breakfasts and dinners that you can eat in or take back to your unit. You’ll have your own kitchen facilities too, so you’ll be able to conjure up your own meals if you prefer. Each accommodation also has a proper bed, an ensuite bathroom and heating; bedding and towels are provided. Outside is just as lovely – each unit has its own private outdoor space, so you’ll really feel able to relax out there. There’s outdoor seating, a firepit and (the ultimate luxury?) your own hot tub.

Fantastic pods & cabins! Super clean facilities & hot tubs. Friendly staff. Peaceful, near rail museum, great food. Minor potholes & bar hours, but hot tub fixes were quick.

Snowdrop camping pod (adults only, no pets)

Liked Well this is one amazing place great staff very polite and helpful and made my cabin so special for me to propose to my partner it has fantastic views well presented and very clean and tidy. The facilities are at a very high standard and a very special place for all couples families and general gathering. They also have moto homes pitch up points and tenting places available The fishing lakes x3 are very well set out very spacious and theirs a fishing shop for bait and is very accomadating for fishing the restaurants has incredible menu and very reasonable priced and have all sorts of beverages from wines to beers larger and various spirits which are also reasonably priced. The food is really nice and presented. The wedding set out is incredible over looking the lake and the service tent is very good and presentable to a very high standard. Overall it has got my full satisfaction and is an incredible place to book and go to. I highly recommend this place and will be attending back hear very soon I would give my honest opinion and rate this place 4.5⭐️ out of 5⭐️ Thank you so much for an amazing time and made it so welcome.

Disliked There is one factor which could be improved is the open and closing times for the restaurant it closes at 5pm but could do with being open a little later for people who turn up late due to work or commitments

Fully-serviced concrete slab motorhome site

Liked Lovely site. Nice and relaxing overlooking the lake. Restaurant has amazing kebabs and lovely drinks. Definitely will be back.

Disliked Bit of a tight turn in-between two houses. My motorhome is 24 ft so just bare this in mind. Long pot hole Rd up to site. Just take your time .... its worth it.

Fully-serviced concrete slab motorhome site (hot tub)

Liked We stayed in our van with a hot tub. The hot tub was in a large shed with a dining table and wood burning stove. The hot tub was great , very hot and lots of space in the shed and very private. Theres enough space for 2 vans so cost could be shared with 4 of you. We got takeout food from the bar and had a pint. Site was very quiet. Staff really friendly and shower was very hot.

Disliked Got some logs for the wood burner as the shed was very cold. £20 is a bit over priced when you're only going to use a few. Only one shower with a keypad and also keys to unlock the toilet.

Fully-serviced concrete slab motorhome site

Liked Great pitches overlooking fishing lake, level and spaced out. Motorhome waste dump and Elsan point available. Would recommend.

Disliked Have confidence in turning into access lane (entry is between two houses and then a long unmade but serviceable road with passing places )

Local attractions

In the 1820s, during the heyday of the coal-mining industry, Shildon (five minutes’ drive) became a major railway hub. Today this heritage is celebrated at Locomotion, where you can see the world’s first steam locomotive, as well as model railways and a statue of Robert Stephenson, who designed the Stockton and Darlington Railway. There’s something for everyone at Raby Castle, Deer Park & The Plotters’ Forest (20 minutes). Wildlife enthusiasts might head straight to the 200 acres of parkland to admire the resident red and fallow deer, while kids might insist you check out The Plotters’ Forest first, an adventure playground with towers to climb and treetop tunnels to crawl along. Stretching along the River Wear, Durham (25 minutes) has an impressive Norman cathedral that houses the tomb of medieval scholar the Venerable Bede. Climb the Central Tower (it’s only 325 steps…) for far-reaching views of this university city, including Durham Castle.
