  • Bell tent on a rural 220-acre farm with views over Malton Valley
  • A 10-minute drive from Durham and a farm park; footpaths nearby
  • Firepit, barbecue and woodland paths on site; book a beekeeping lesson
Get away to this 220-acre working farm in Durham, where there’s a bell tent in a peaceful private spot in a wildflower field. With views over Malton Valley, Langley West House Farm is a small, wild site on a rural farm… so if you’re after a remote experience with a touch of luxury, this is it. The five-metre bell tent is kitted out with a woodburning stove, double bed and sofa. Outside is just as splendidly set up. There’s a seating area, a barbecue and a firepit, so feel free to see off the day with some alfresco dining. With solar lights lit in the evening to minimise light pollution, stargazing might keep you occupied too. Off-grid, the pitch has access to a private portable toilet and sink. The other facilities are in the main farmyard and include a toilet, water source and firewood available for purchase. Bring your own bedding and cooking equipment (they’re not included) or hire them from the site if needed. The 220-acre farm has its own private woodland and the owners are happy for you to go exploring in there. They can also arrange a beekeeping lesson on site for an additional cost. Otherwise, strap your walking boots on tightly and head out onto the nearby footpaths and bridleways. If you’re hungry again, you might want to stop by the village of Lanchester (35 minutes’ walk), where there’s an old-style pub, restaurants, bakery, butchers and other amenities. The historic city of Durham (10 minutes’ drive) has plenty of more food venues and a cathedral, castle and medieval hall.
