  • Well-kept hardstanding touring pitches in County Durham countryside
  • The Bowes Museum and Locomotion railway museum 20 minutes’ drive
  • Adults-only site with a games room, work area and wellness centre
Whether you’re looking for a tourer home for the night or intend to hang around exploring County Durham, you’ll find plenty that pleases at Kip and Nook, an adults-only campervan site with lots of extra benefits thrown in. Set in open countryside 10 minutes’ drive from the shops and pubs of Darlington, the site has well-maintained hardstanding pitches, all supplied with water and electricity. Modern amenities are adjacent – meaning no long morning walks to the shower for you. The communal areas of the site include The Workshop, kitted out with a ping-pong table, pool table and darts board, where coffee is served around a cosy woodburner. Use the quiet corners in the Co-Working Space to get any emails and Zoom meetings sorted in peace. As far as food goes, you can cater for yourselves, or order pizza ahead of time on site. If you’re staying around for a few days, you may like to book yoga classes, and there are saunas, ice baths and a chill-out area in the Breathing Room. Dogs are welcome to accompany you to Kip and Nook, and you’ll have no trouble finding walks – with some leading across a couple of fields to the River Tees direct from the pitches.

The Tiny fully-serviced concrete slab motorhome site

Liked: Impressive entrance and initial wow factor of the Workshop bar area. Fab pizzas from the bar in the evening. Pleasant bar staff and reasonable bar prices.

Disliked: Not a pleasant camping experience. Evidently campers are the 'poor relations' compared to those staying in the 'luxury cabins'. Bleak pitches, away from all the lovely landscaping of the cabins. Just fencing and grey gravel to look out at. Facilities v inadequate. Just 2 toilets, and 2 showers, newly fitted out contemporary styling but cheap finish, with wood panels missing and one shower o.o.o.already. And the smell!!! Dreadful stale water smell permeating throughout the block, probably caused by the woeful drainage system in the shower. V poor design. Floors flood on first use, so poor for those following to use. No mop or means to tidy up a little for the next users. Washing up sink right beside the septic tank by the smell of it. Unbearable for me. Made my stomach heave. Couldn't wait to leave. Sorry Kip & Nook, but it seems a lot of style over substance.

The Tiny fully-serviced concrete slab motorhome site

Liked: The washroom facilities were really good.....with a double shower (which was a first for us). We spotted hot-tubs and even a sauna on site, which was also a novelty. The barn had a great-looking bar with cool seating areas.....dotted with vintage cars, which was really fun. We didn't eat there, but I understand there are things like pizzas and breakfast available (to pre-order).

Disliked: There was nothing we really disliked hugely - except that our Campervans pitch was next to a ditch which smelt very strongly of sewage. Once we closed our doors this wasn't a problem though, but with the dogs open, the smell was very 'present'.

The Tiny fully-serviced concrete slab motorhome site

Liked: Clean and clearly marked camping bays, lovely club house building with relaxed seating & table tennis, pool etc.

Disliked: Horrible smell - I was next to the toilet block. This smell was also evident inside the block. I couldn't work out if it was a sewage smell or something to do with the wood treatment of the building, but it was v unpleasant.
