  • Remote airfield site surrounded by farmland
  • A 15-minute drive to Woodbridge; 35 minutes to Aldeburgh on the coast
  • Village shop and pub 10 minutes’ cycle away or a five-minute drive
As a pretty, grassy airfield surrounded by farmland in what the site calls ‘the middle of nowhere’, Monewden Airfield is a quiet getaway indeed. With just the occasional light aircraft landing or taking off and lots of local wildlife, you’ll have plenty of scope for relaxing, playing games or plotting out a big adventure in Suffolk. Before you get to that adventure, however, food might be the first thing on your brain. Very handily, the village shop and pub are a 10-minute bike ride or a five-minute car ride away in Otley. Food sorted, next up on your itinerary might be Woodbridge (15 minutes’ drive), a town with a boating centre, or the east coast. Aldeburgh and Felixstowe’s seaside amusements are only 35 minutes’ drive away. Back at base, there are shower and toilet facilities, along with a toilet emptying point. Families are very welcome; as a small working airfield, kids will need supervision at all times.

Liked: What a fabulous stay we had! Lisa & Steve are so welcoming. The Pod is beautiful and so well equipped and all the extra touches of blankets, kitchen equipment, tea, coffee etc really made it feel like home from home. The gas bbq was a great bonus to! It Was lovely to see the planes and getting to look in the hanger and chat to the pilots taking their planes up! And having so much space to play on the fields. We will definitely return next year for another relaxing & enjoyable stay. Thank you for your hospitality. The Brisley's

A-frame camping pod

Liked: We were made to feel really welcomed upon arrival. Extremely quiet location the only guest we had was a random Magpie every morning. The A frame was clean and very presentable with most of the necessities needed for the stay. Lots of sockets to charge all the tech we brought with us, even though the child had to learn the art of conversation again because the signal on our phones were very weak and refused to work inside the A frame. Which was a good thing we felt because he had to play and explore. Would definitely stay again because it’s a stunning location and the owners were really lovely.

Disliked: Only thing we could suggest is a small hand rail on the steps because my mother was slightly unstable on her legs. It would have offered her some reassurance. Though for most people I’m sure this isn’t an issue.

A-frame camping pod

Liked: The pod is so well kitted out. You've got everything you need to feel at home. Fridge and freezer, hob cooker which was surprisingly powerful, bathroom is compact and comfortable, the bed is comfy. Plenty of electric sockets to charge up devices. The view is lovely and the area is quiet and peaceful. The owners are great and attentive, they even put balloons and a cake at the pod upon realising it was my birthday which was really sweet if them. They had good recommendations for food and eating out. The Cretingham Bell is great for dinner. A proper gem to stay at and will return again when I'm visiting the area in the future.

Disliked: Only gripe was one of the upper windows high up on the wall isn't curtained, and it's East facing so you get the sun shining right onto where you are sleeping, so if you are light sensitive, take an eye mask. I did mention it to the owners who said they will figure out how to sort that out, so hopefully that will be a good change for when I next return.

Liked: We liked how welcoming the host was when we arrived. The view from the pod was lovely. It was very peaceful with not a lot around but Woodbridge wasn't to far. Spent just one night here and I would definitely recommend if you wanted a peaceful few nights. The kitchen facilities were clean and a nice touch was the BBQ. There was plenty of cups, plates and cutlery. The fridge and toaster was a good size, and so was the downstairs living area and loft bed. Overall was just a lovely experience if your looking to just get away although it looks quite small every bit of space has been well thought about and utilised. There was also cleaning products for washing up, biscuits and tea and coffee making facilities this was also a very nice touch. Would recommend for couples and adults.

Disliked: If I was made to say what I disliked about the accommodation was just that the bathroom was a little small. But this did not hinder my experience. The shower was a very good size and the water pressure and heat of the water I couldn't fault. Just if your tall try not to bump your head when on the loo. WiFi or 5/4G my partner struggles to get but honestly that's why we chose here as it takes you away from distractions. But honestly I would go back again and this is not a major issue.

Liked: We had a friendly welcome and both check-in and check-out were straight forward. The accommodation was unique and cosy with everything we needed, including a lovely ensuite. There were lots of places to visit locally and some nice local pubs. The site was very peaceful. Would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.
