Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitches

  • Kessingland site directly on the Suffolk coast
  • Three different pitching up areas over 28 acres
  • Two new amenities blocks, including disabled and family rooms
What a beach! And what a view… The gorgeous East Anglian coastline and an expanse of Suffolk sands sweep out for miles from The Hollies touring and camping park near Lowestoft: the site is set on a cliff and the views from your pitch or your firepit of an evening will be Hollie-wood worthy. It's Kessingland Beach below you at The Hollies, which is a highly scenic ten or 15-minute saunter along the clifftop path and an equally scenic scene on arrival with its miles of golden sand. And the beach is dog-friendly all year round, as is The Hollies – hurrah and woof. The amiable Hollies team has arranged three picks of pitches on its roomy 28-acre site: the Barley field for tourers and with electric hook-up; the Seaside field for tents and without electric; and the Hay field especially suitable for mixed groups with a mix of tent and touring pitches, all with electric. Amenities are newly built and include two large shower and loo blocks with family rooms and rooms for disabled guests; a newly built playground is on site too for Suffolk coast-based little squirts.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Location and cliff/beach.
Clean throughout.
Staff friendly and welcoming.
Offers longer term siting for those this might be of interest to.
Chip shop and cafe van, both used and both good quality and value for money, however limited opening times. Cafe only sat and Sunday mornings and chip shop section only around 4 times slots a week so some days no food available to buy on site.

Disliked Unreliable bus network (clearly nothing the site has any control over but is a factor if people are hoping to head out to Lowestoft etc)
Lacking in quanity of bathroom facilities. Luckily I did ask for and was given a site close to one of these but is something to bear in mind when booking. The facilities are good but only only 2 blocks for around 3 fields. One was closed for some reason on my second day do then only one block for everyone. Might be an idea to add a few portable loos in other locations around the site?
I didn't explore the area outside of the site much (as 3 x buses didn't turn up and Uber had no drivers available) so unsure whether shops or places to eat nearby. Didn't spot any.

Liked Loved it all, peaceful, and restful, amenities are brilliant and clean. Reception and all staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Disliked Bit noisy near the bins as we backed onto bins and cars don’t keep to 5mph and wheels spinning the stones up on to our caravan.

Seaside unpowered grass tent site

Liked Love how close to the coast this site is. Fabulous views great spot for watching the sunrise . Great for birdwatchers . Lovely flat pitches, super clean toilets and showers ( with nice hot water and decent pressure) Fish and chip van do great fish and chips ( cooked in beef fat) Not too far from Lowestoft town centre , in fact its a lovely walk along the beach which takes a good 45 minutes or slightly longer if you leave the beach at the holiday park and visit the pubs along the way :) We had came a couple of weeks ago with some mates and loved it so much we came again on our own.

Seaside unpowered grass tent site

Liked The Hollies is in a great location and within walking distance of a pebbled beach. The reception staff are very friendly and the toilet/shower blocks are spotless. A freezer available for refreezing cool packs and a hut for phone charging. There’s also coffee huts and an onsite fish and chip shop,

Disliked The site rules issued on arrival states ‘dogs are requested to be kept under control’. Although our dog was under control and is very well trained, the ‘Park Police’ in his blue van put a stop to his ball play.

Seaside unpowered grass tent site

Liked This place is our 'go to' place for a cheap and cheerful get away. We always have a choice of where to pitch up in the seaside field (non electric), reception are so warming and welcoming, the whole site is always clean and tidy, the Loos and showers are spotless, guaranteed hot water, washing up areas are never dirty or messy. Variety of walks if you have 4 legged friends. Simple and basic but that's all you need when camping in a field. Ice cream man comes into site, fish and chip van if don't fancy cooking, local shops near by if forgotten anything.Loads of room to play family games in seaside field. Lovely stretch of beach to walk on your doorstep

Disliked Sadly the coffee rush hut wasn't there this time, my daughter's take their pocket money to have a fresh smoothie every morning

Local attractions

The Hollies is in a spiffing location to get to the best of Suffolk, Norfolk, the countryside and the Broads for a bit of whatever you fancy in boating, fishing, hiking, rainy day activities and family days out. Lowestoft, Southwold and Great Yarmouth are all within ten miles – Lowestoft is only about five minutes by car – and are all well worth a day trip each, as is lovely Norwich about an hour's drive to the north-west (services run regularly from Lowestoft Station too). Lowestoft has two theatres and a handful of small museums in Sparrow Park alongside the main Lowestoft Museum in Nicholas Everett Park; head to the library's local history section for more pics and info of days of yore. Lowestoft's lighthouse is probably its most well-known feature, but take time for a trip to Ness Point too, the most easterly location in the UK (just ask a Lowestoft local to point you towards Gulliver). If you're on hol with the kids, you'll find loads of family-friendly options in the area, like the Africa Alive animal park five minutes' drive from the Hollies (go here on a Sunday for a bonzer of a car boot sale) and the Pleasurewood Hills theme park about 20 minutes away. Kids might also like the wooden roller disco at Lowestoft's Claremont Pier, but if this doesn't have them wheeling around in joy, take them to walk the plank at the play park Adventure Island, or to see more species at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Park just outside Great Yarmouth. Finally, nautical sorts don't need to tie themselves in knots trying to find a craft to take care of, as fishing boats can be chartered near Kessingland for sea angling trips, and the Norfolk Broads Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is within easy reach to drift along wildlife-laden waterways.
