  • Seaside family park 15 minutes' drive from Lowestoft
  • Access to lots of sporting and watersports activities
  • Spa, sports bar, pools, adventure playground, bar and restaurant
Starland Krew and sandcastles for the munchkins, a spa bath, a sports bar, and fish and chip-fuelled smiles all round… guests can pick and mix from a vast menu of family activities at Kessingland Beach Holiday Park, on the gorgeous Suffolk coast just north of the Benacre National Nature Reserve and 15 minutes' drive from Lowestoft. Guests at this seaside site have access to great sports and watersports facilities, playing all sorts of games at the multisports court, shooting down the waterslide into the indoor pool, splashing about in the open-air pool or wallowing contentedly in the adjacent hot tub. For the under-11s, the kids' clubs have activities to please sporty, arty and smartypants types alike and there’s an undercover play area and an outdoor adventure playground too, with a zipwire for the intrepid and swings and slides for those who prefer more placid playtime. Whatever activity you select can be followed up by gathering all ages for something from the frisky programme of family entertainment for the evenings. Aside from the chippy and other takeaway food, the on-site Boathouse bar and restaurant serves up a good range of grub. Go on, have that pudding – there’s a lovely beach right outside where you can stroll it all off.

What customers say

Top campsite, friendly staff, clean facilities, beach nearby. Pools & evening entertainment a hit with families. Some minor feedback on dated amenities, cleanliness, and a few muddy pitches.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked I liked that it’s a very big place, and we didn’t feel alone in the middle of nowhere.

Disliked There are more things we didn’t like about this place. Firstly, the toilets were quite far from the tents and not in great condition. To access the swimming pool, we had to wait almost an hour at the entrance. The staff member checking our pool passes told us we could only enter at 2 o’clock, so we were left waiting. In the meantime, we tried to sit on the chairs by the outdoor pool, but another staff member asked us to leave, saying their policy doesn’t allow anyone to stay there before the opening time. Even when I asked if at least the children could sit, he insisted we leave.

On top of that, the sea is quite far away, the beach is full of stones, and there was also dog waste around, which made it unpleasant. Overall, I don’t recommend this place at all. We really disliked our stay and will not come back again.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The campsite area was well kept & tidy. Pitches quite close together but ok. The staff were all friendly and helpful in all areas. The restaurant food was a decent standard. Activities were all booked up online before we even arrived but we did always manage to get a walk-in at the swimming pool. But crazy golf etc available. Nice beach. Good location with plenty to do in the area.

Disliked The toilet/shower block needs updating and the hot water runs out. It is also quite a walk from the camping area and set nearer the static caravans that don't need it, so really feel an additional block needs to be provided in the camping area. The wait/queue in the restaurant could be lengthy so must be worse on the weekends, but the staff do their best.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The entertainment was good plenty for the kids to do. The food outside of the entertainment venue was cheaper and better in my opinion.

Disliked The state of the toilet and shower block on the camp was absolutely disgusting and the smell was horrendous smelt like pure urine and faeces. The guy who was cleaning the shower block the five days I was there does not have a clue. The multiple times I see him “clean” consisted of wiping down the sides with a cloth no cleaning products in sight and the floor was wiped over with a red towel over a floor squidgy thing no mop and bucket. Tooth paste splatter on the mirrors all week and The poo stains in the toilet were literally there all week as well the same ones!! I’m surprised we never came home with some sort of bacteria infection or viral disease it really is that gross. Also the pressure of the showers was good but be prepared for a hot and cold mostly cold shower so If your camping and need a shower go to the swimming pool showers hot and clean

Liked Going home. Think Pitchup got this one wrong.

Disliked Water for shower cold [has been reported a numerous times]. Gents toilet smells and more like Victorian. Ladies toilet seat broken. Lack of plugs for sinks. Soap dispense broken. No security check or security gate when entering(apparently 50 travelers turned up and pitched without permission). Feral children riding around on bikes and scooters and when not smashing cleaning signs. Cash machines charge for money withdrawn. Swimming pool overcrowded and time slot. Only entrainment was bingo, kids entrainment all night till 11am (over excited kids making noise). Steep steps going to beach ( not ideal for disabled). Lots of litter around. Entrainment room very expensive drinks and ceiling held up by tape. Bad WiFi.

Local attractions

The nearby seaside towns of Lowestoft (15 minutes' drive) and Southwold (20 minutes) are among the most charming in the country: think fab family beaches, candy-coloured beach huts, piers and proms, plus buckets and spades of old-school charm. Aim for the former if you're after a bit of watersports action, or pick the latter for chi-chi shops, a zany pier attraction and seafront walks to Walberswick. Swap beaches for beasties with family outings to see the exotic beasts roaming the plains of Suffolk at Africa Alive! (five minutes), or seek out seahorses, sharks and penguins at Sea Life Great Yarmouth (35 minutes). For wildlife of a more local variety, nip up to the waterways of the Norfolk Broads (half an hour) where you can become captain of your own boat for the day (or take a tour if you're unsure of your navigational expertise…) For family fun on a grand scale, head to Pleasurewood Family Theme Park (25 minutes); at the opposite end of the spectrum is the tiny townscape at Merrivale Model Village (35 minutes). And somewhere in the middle is the swish Victorian pad at Somerleyton Hall (half an hour), where both mansion and gardens are worth a stroll.
