  • Wildlife haven in west Norfolk: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site next to the Norfollk Coast Path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

Great spot near the beach, with friendly staff. Facilities are basic but clean for most, though a few found issues. Peaceful, campfires allowed. Pitches can be close. Ongoing upgrades noted.

Power optional grass motorhome site

Liked Nothing. We were only there to meet our family who were in a static close by. We wouldn’t have stayed more than one night otherwise.

Disliked We arrived on Easter Monday. The toilets were disgraceful. Early evening the owner’s wife was cleaning the toilet block, and attempted to assure me this wasn’t the usual standard. It was cleaned and restocked. We stayed 3 nights and it was clear to me the toilet block was not cleaned again. The site itself was all scruffy and run down. We won’t be going again.

Power optional grass campervan site (no awning)

Liked I had such a warm welcome from Simon when I arrived. It was a busy bank holiday Saturday. He greeted me with one of his owls ( as well as working on the campsite he is also Simon Smith of ' Owls and About' I came to learn. The campsite was busy and as a solo female traveller I felt very safe and protected knowing Simon was on site and close at hand if I needed anything all whilst being given the space to be an independent traveller. I loved the relax nature of the site, the beautiful field to one side which was my 'bedroom' view and Simons amazing Owls to the right of me. The amazing South Heacham beach is a minutes walk away. The beach side cafe cooks the most amazing and affordable homemade meals. There is a general store which is close and stocked with absolutely everything. The showers always ran with hot water as did the sinks for washing up. The cleaner does an amazing job keeping the facilities tip top and replenished.

From the manager: What a fantastic review! We are absolutely beaming reading about your experience as a solo traveler. It is so important to us that our guests feel safe, supported, and relaxed, so we are thrilled that Simon was able to make you feel right at home (and introduce you to his beautiful owls from 'Owls and About'!).

It sounds like you had the perfect setup with the field views on one side and the owls on the other—it truly is a unique way to wake up. We are also so glad you enjoyed the local gems like the South Heacham beach cafe and our nearby general store; we really are lucky to have such a great community just a minute's walk away.

Our cleaning team will be so happy to hear your compliments on the facilities, too. We take great pride in keeping the hot water flowing and the site tip-top for our guests. Thank you so much for your recommendation and for choosing us for your Bank Holiday getaway. We can't wait to welcome you back for another stay!

Liked Close to the beach

Disliked The site itself. It’s not ‘Rustic’ it’s scruffy, neglected and dirty. Facilities are not fit for purpose and look like they haven’t had a proper clean in months.
And this place cost us £70 per night!!(Moho, 3 nights, electric,2dogs) Most expensive place we’ve ever stayed. Won’t be back.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are glad that you found our location convenient for enjoying the beach, as our proximity to the coast is something many of our guests appreciate.

We acknowledge your comments regarding the aesthetic of the site and the condition of the facilities. We understand that our style and pricing may not be to everyone's personal taste, especially when compared to other sites you may have visited. While we maintain a specific atmosphere here, we appreciate you sharing your perspective on the value and cleanliness of your stay. Thank you for choosing to spend your break with us.

Power optional grass tent site (large, four person, family)

Liked Friendly park, Loved the wildlife and nice hot showers, water point and electric on our plot was a nice bonus, unfortunately our tent collapsed a bit in the night due to high winds 😂, however we had help putting up windbreaks the following day from staff whi ch was very helpful and very appreciated.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: It is so wonderful to hear that you would recommend us and plan to visit again! We are thrilled that you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the park and our local wildlife—it really does add a bit of magic to the stay. We’re also glad you enjoyed the hot showers and the convenience of having your own water and electric points right on your plot.

That wind sounds like it gave you quite a bit of trouble during the night! We are so happy our team was able to jump in the next day and help you secure those windbreaks. We always aim to be as helpful as possible, and it’s great to know that support made a difference for you. We look forward to welcoming you back (hopefully with calmer breezes!) very soon.

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
