  • Eco camping and glamping in a 4 acre natural meadow
  • Rural family farm location on the Suffolk/Norfolk border
  • Small, quiet site with a friendly communal feel, luxury eco facilities
Ling's Meadow is all about a slower pace of life - whether it be lying among the tall meadow grasses listening to bird song, or stargazing around an open fire. It is also a celebration of the great outdoors, where you can lose yourself in bug hunting, den building, kite flying, alpaca trekking and campfire cooking. We are only able to accommodate up to twenty five guests at a time so the site is naturally quite quiet and has a relaxed, friendly and communal feel. As we are small the meadow is also perfect for groups of family or friends who would like to book the whole site for a get together. Two furnished bell tents, a cosy shepherd's hut, a gypsy caravan, a family sized living van and six camping pitches are set within a peaceful four acre natural meadow that is also visited by a barn owl, hares, deer and buzzards on a regular basis. They each have their own outdoor seating area and fire pit with tripod and hanging grill. The light and airy 5m canvas bell tents are furnished with a double bed and two single futon beds that come with soft duvets and pillows and homemade crochet blankets. The cosy shepherd's hut and gypsy caravan have double pull out beds that acts as a sofa seat during the day. The living van has two double bunk style beds. Linen and towels are provided for seven night stays. Sets can be hired on site. For extra comfort we add cotton bunting, solar chandeliers, restored furniture and extra touches such as flowers from the farm garden. The end result is a relaxed and home-crafted feel. The tents, living van, hut and caravan are equipped with everything that you will need for your stay - from cooking equipment, cool boxes and a fire pit with grill to a selection of good books! Each of the meadow tent pitches is set within its own cut grass circle and has enough space for a large family tent. The meadow is car free and a large area is left untouched to protect the local wildlife. Fire pits with grills available to borrow for free. The campsite is very much off grid and has been lovingly developed with sustainability in mind. Two luxury composting toilets and a separate solar and wood heated shower are provided in purpose built wooden pods. Water is recycled using marginal plants as natural filters and waste recycling facilities are available in the camp kitchen. Campers have access to a secure cycle shed with tool kit and local route information, bike and kit (for a small fee) washing facilities and cycles to borrow. To make it easier to travel light we also provide shared cooking and dining equipment in the communal camp kitchen. There is also the option of a pre-pitched tent with futon mattress and bedding available for exhausted cyclists and walkers ready to collapse by the campfire!

Route directions

Getting to us by train or bus Our nearest railway stations are Thetford, Diss and Stowmarket. Bury St Edmunds is only slightly further away. All have taxi ranks but you could also get a bus. Stowmarket and Diss stations have regular, direct services to and from London Liverpool Street. Thetford has regular services to and from King’s Cross and to the north via Peterborough. There are reasonably regular bus services from Diss and Bury St Edmunds to Hepworth but times can change so it always worth checking. Suffolk County Council’s Journey Planner will provide the latest timetable. Both journeys take about half an hour and have buses that arrive in Hepworth between 2 and 3pm. Unfortunately Hepworth bus stop (on the A143 opposite the Duke of Marlborough) is at the wrong end of the village for us but if you let us know you are coming we can pick you up. You could also try buses that stop at Barningham (opposite the Royal George) or Stanton (opposite Hill Top Way) which would be closer to walk but the service is less frequent. Buses from Thetford are more complicated and to be honest it is probably easier to get a taxi. By bicycle National Cycle Network Route 13 and Regional Route 30 are just to the north of Ling’s Meadow. From Route 13 you can take Coney Weston Road from Coney Weston to Barningham where you can join the B111 towards Stanton. From Route 30 turn off onto the B111 at Hopton and follow towards Barningham. Following the B111 from Barningham towards Stanton, turn first left onto North Common (signed by-road). Ling’s Meadow is second on the left. If you get to Hillcrest Nursery you have gone to far! By car For local traffic we are just off the B111 between Barningham and Stanton. If you are coming from the south of us turn off the A143 onto the B111 at Stanton. After Hillcrest nursery turn right onto North Common (helpfully signed by-road!) and Ling’s Meadow is second on the left (see map above). If you are coming from the north follow the B111 until you pass through Barningham and then turn left onto North Common. Please beware, satnav systems always seem to get it wrong and take you to the wrong end of North Common! If you are coming from further afield you can reach the B111 via the A14 and then the A143. The A14 links up with the A11 and M11 from the west, the A1 from the north and the A12 from the south east. We are only two hours from north London (one and a half on a clear run). Take the M11 and then A11 to the A14 and follow for Bury St Edmunds. Come off at Bury St Edmunds Central and follow the A143 towards Felixstowe. From south or east London it is probably quicker to take the A12 to Ipswich and then join the A14 to Bury St Edmunds. In both cases follow the A143 from the Bury St Edmunds Central exit to the B111 turn off at Stanton.

Local attractions

Ling's Meadow is within walking distance of a farm shop and local pubs serving good food. We are also a short drive or cycle ride away from Wyken Vineyards where you will find delicious local wine, a weekly farmer's market and a popular restaurant. For campers who want to explore the beautiful Suffolk and Norfolk countryside, National Cycle Network Route 13 and Regional Route 30 run just a mile to the north of the campsite. The start of The Peddars Way walk is only 3 miles down the road and several local walking footpaths start from within a few hundred metres of the farm entrance. A thirty minute drive away is High Lodge at Thetford Forest. Here you can enjoy den building and an adventure playground or explore the forest on foot, by bicycle or by Segway. The campsite is very centrally placed and is convenient for exploring Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Norwich.
