This family-run holiday park in the Norfolk Broads is bound to be a handy base for getting out and exploring the coast and countryside. Set within a peaceful woodland within the national park, Clippesby Hall has scenic wooded surroundings, high-quality facilities and – get this – it's also only a 20-minute drive from the seaside resort of Great Yarmouth and 35 minutes from the historic city of Norwich. The park lies in a nature-rich area with woodland glades, mature gardens and peaceful green spaces. The modern reception and BASECAMP complex houses a café-bar-restaurant serving everything from full English breakfasts to stonebaked pizzas, plus a shop for essentials. Modern shower facilities (spacious, bright and impeccably maintained) are another convenience. Spend your downtime flitting between the varied leisure facilities: there’s an 18-hole mini golf course, cycle hire and tennis courts directly on site. Kids can also let off steam at the adventure playground, where there are zipwires and a climbing wall, or at the two other on-site play areas.

Lovely, tidy site with good pitches and helpful staff. Facilities mostly good, though could do with a spruce-up. Zip lines and mini-golf a hit with families. Some found pitches tricky in the wet, WiFi patchy, and noise sometimes past 11.

Old Orchard fully-serviced concrete slab site

Liked Beautiful setting. The Basecamp bar/restaurant/shop was modern and pristine. Good-sized pitches with plenty of privacy. Good range of play equipment for younger children. Shower and loo facilities were generally clean and in good order. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Take-out pizza from Basecamp was astoundingly good.

Disliked For the number of pitches, one more shower and toilet block wouldn’t go amiss: even being cleaned twice-daily, showers could get a bit grubby. Water pressure in showers was a bit low.

Make sure to bring a standpipe adapter to fit water hose - they do sell them for a small cost at Reception, but I was lucky to get one of the last ones on our visit, and would’ve been stumped without it.

Liked Excellent site for children so much space with activities if you want to take part. Feels very safe and staff are so hardworking and friendly and kept clean at all times. Lovely restaurant and bar area

Disliked Rather small / cosy shower facilities by the Heath but still did the job and showers were nice and hot

Rabbit's Grove fully-serviced concrete slab site

Liked Spotless site, great facilities: bar/restaurant/play parks/zip lines… perfect family site. Lots of shade in the right spots. It was great to have things like a fete and yoga on site too! Staff worked so hard and were all lovely.

Disliked Our bathrooms could do with a bit of an upgrade but clean enough. Minor but WiFi was only accessible in the bar area.

Liked Restaurant and bar were good to have on site. Facilities were good in a nice setting.

Disliked A well organised set-up that would suit some more than others. Families would love it. As a couple we probably prefer the more relaxed sites that are a bit more open and nearer to nature.

Liked Good customer service and the staff was lovely

Both shower blocks was nice a clean but we used the one next to base camp as the shower facilities was newer and more space

Good facilities for the children

The Dell unpowered grass tent site

Liked A really nicely positioned pitch which was a good size for our family tent and car. Site shower/toilet facilities were good and there was never a wait. Quiet time was respected. My kids enjoyed the play areas and football pitch. Plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area.

There are some very fine adventures to be had once you step outside Clippesby Hall, whether you're after outdoor activities, good scenery or a family day out. The site is in the Norfolk Broads National Park and a short drive from its popular waterways, where boating, canoeing, paddleboarding or peaceful wildlife watching are the go-to activities. Hire a day boat to drift along the rivers while keeping your eyes peeled for herons and otters. There's also stunning countryside on all sides of the site, with miles of quiet lanes and woodland tracks for a gentle walk or longer ramble; circular routes also begin directly from the site. Meanwhile, a 15- to 20-minute drive is all it takes to reach Norfolk's wide sandy beaches, dunes and traditional seaside towns like Great Yarmouth. Those who fancy more wildlife-spotting can head to the coastal nature reserves, birdwatching hides and riverside walks. There are plenty of ideas around these parts for family activities, too, whether it's a trip to animal/adventure parks like Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (20 minutes) or historic houses and museums like the Elizabethan House Museum in Great Yarmouth (20 minutes).
