  • Family-friendly glamping site a 10-minute drive from Droitwich Spa
  • Worcester 20 minutes’ drive; Cadbury World 45 minutes
  • Dinosaur-themed miniature golf course; Thai restaurant; farmer’s shop
At Sunset Retreats, a luxury glamping site on the outskirts of the village of Ombersley (10 minutes’ walk), you get a lot more than spectacular sunsets. This peaceful site has hi-spec pods in a lush corner of the Worcestershire countryside (which you can gaze at contentedly from the comfort of your private patio area). Not only that: all accommodations come with the necessary mod cons – from tea- and coffee-making facilities, to a fridge and microwave, and also a Freeview TV; and you can travel light, since all bed linen and towels are provided. Your stay also includes a hot tub and sauna pre-arrival service (including four logs and kindling, with extra logs bags and kindling available from the on-site farm shop for a small additional fee). While the kids explore the playground or have a game of miniature golf at the dinosaur-themed Jurassic Jungle Golf (for which you have one free token included in your stay), you might want to check out the nearby farmer’s shop with a view to making dinner, perhaps at the communal barbecue; in addition to vegetables and fruit, the shop stocks artisanal cheeses and locally reared meats. If cooking sounds like too much effort, a restaurant in a double-decker bus parked on site serves Thai dishes, and there are more dining options in Ombersley and Droitwich Spa (10 minutes’ drive). When it’s time to stretch your legs, the surrounding area has plenty of splendid walks. A 20-minute stroll takes you to the village of Holt Fleet, where you can stop for a pint at one of a couple of pubs overlooking the river Severn. Alternatively, you can head to Shrawley Wood (10 minutes) or the Malvern Hills National Landscape (35 minutes) for forested trails.

The Hogwarts 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: The cabin itself was very cosy! Loved the hot tub and the sauna!
Got a free go at the mini golf which was fun.

Disliked: The location wasn’t in the best place, not very private as all the cabins are stuffed together in one place. The surrounding villages which are a close walk away are lovely but as it’s just of a very busy main road the location could have been better!

Anna Mae 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Beautiful little gypsy hut, looked new. Hot tub and steam pod were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed using them.
The bed was fantastic and comfy, lovely shower with lots of hot water.

Disliked: There were just some.simple things missing:
- No hand towel
- No blind on the front door which meant no privacy, we ended up jamming a towel in the door.
- We took food to make breakfast as there is a two ring hob but found no pots or pans and no knives or toaster 🤷
- 2 towels were provided but it would have been nice to have had extra towels for use in the hot tub. I would have expected this for the price paid.
The site when you.drice in is messy and looks run down which gives a bad impression but the pods are not.

Double Barrel 2 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Beafutil place and the hottub was ready for us when we arrived, staff very polite and helpful. There is a really good farm shop and Thai takeaway on site, the quality of food was amazing and very affordable prices.
The dino themed minigolf was really good and the staff was wonderful with our 4 year old.
Anything we ask or have a query about the staff went the extra mile to help. I would definitely recommend it and will be back.

Double Hobbit 1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: We really enjoyed our nights in the cutest little hobbit house! It was really clean and cosy, the bed was really comfy. Bbq provided and the hot tub was brilliant stayed super hot all night, extra logs provided but was not needed. TV in the room has WiFi and all the usual apps. A free game of dinosaur golf that also sell snacks / beers, great fun! We will definitely be returning with our children next time. Some fantastic local places to eat / drink, highly recommend breakfast at checketts cafe, and drinks in the beer garden on the river at the Holt Fleet, less than 5 mins drive to both, could walk but the paths are very narrow with fast traffic, we ordered uber taxi really easily so we could enjoy a drink or 3 😀
Towels / bedding provided
My only suggestion would be to add some wine glasses to the huts & a little welcome card with the WiFi password, our welcome email went to my junk folder so I missed this but that's not a fault of sunset retreats

Disliked: No hot water in the house, shower was cold, didn't realise till late so did not report the issue till checkout

Liked: Everything. You get an email explaining everything you could need to know before you arrive. Once we arrived staff were helpful and absolutely fantastic all round. The accommodation was simply stunning and had everything you needed. Modern. Clean and tidy. Bed was rather comfy. The hot tub and sauna was absolutely amazing!!. Heated on arrival you can smell the wood burning logs as you arrive!!!
Parking was easy.
As two adults we thoroughly enjoyed a game of mini golf at the Jurassic course. Which the staff went out their way to accommodate for us.
There has clearly been a lot of time and passion put into this place and it shows.
We will be back.

1 bedroom safari tent (large)

Liked: The tents are amazing - felt like camping but very luxurious. The site it's self is really great. The kids had so much fun running about and feeding the ducks. The on site staff were so helpful

Disliked: The tents are located next to a busy road and it was very loud at night.

Local attractions

Witley Court & Gardens (10 minutes’ drive) sits in ruins following a devastating fire in the 1930s. Today, it’s possible to walk through the grounds of this atmospheric, derelict country home, admiring colourful flower beds, extravagant topiary creations and a gorgeous fountain that shoots water high into the air. The city of Worcester (20 minutes) is renowned for its porcelain, which you can admire in the Museum of Royal Worcester. From there, head to the banks of the Severn and the spectacular cathedral, which displays Norman and Gothic features, as well as housing the tomb of King John. The kids can pretend to be in a Willy Wonka film at Cadbury World (45 minutes), on the outskirts of Birmingham. As well as finding out how chocolate is made (from the Aztecs to modern manufacturing methods), you can all have a go at tempering and piping, and – of course – there are tastings of Cadbury products…
