  • Adults-only dog-friendly site on the edge of the Malvern Hills
  • Eastnor Castle 10 minutes’ drive; Great Malvern and Ledbury 15 minutes
  • Dog park and walks from the door; nearest pub within a 10-minute walk
Harbouring dreams of exploring the spectacular landscape of the Malvern Hills as part of a romantic escapade with your significant other? Or perhaps you want to be well positioned to explore three counties (Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire) in one fell swoop? Then you might want to consider The Turbles as your base from which to do so. On the eastern edge of the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a five-minute drive (or a half-hour walk) from the village of Welland, this is an adults-only site. No children, then – which makes it blissfully peaceful; well-behaved four-legged friends, however, are welcome. Not only that: they have a designated exercise area for your canine pals to run about in, not to mention plenty of walks starting right at the gate. And while your dog bounds happily by your side, be sure to take in the views of your splendid rural surrounds. Your stroll might take you to the Golden Valley (a half-hour walk), where a pond has resident flocks of ducks and geese; or you might prefer to make a beeline for a local pub, which is 10 minutes' walk away. The pub is dog-friendly inside and out, and serves hot food according to its own schedule. Speaking of food, you’re welcome to start a barbecue at the site or buy something from the site's selection of pies and scotch eggs (including vegan scotch eggs). For provisions, try the well-stocked village store in Welland, or head to Great Malvern, Ledbury (both 15 minutes’ drive) or Tewkesbury (20 minutes) for supermarkets and independent shops (plus, of course, restaurants and cafés). Unisex toilet and shower facilities complete the picture at this well-maintained Worcestershire site.

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked: Loved the peace and quiet of the site and being able to walk to the pub across the field which served fab food. The owner, Duncan, was so kind to give us a lift to the showground on Saturday as there is no public transport nearby. The dog field is a great facility too. Large pitches with electric and water. Wifi was provided too. Great for the price of the pitch.

Disliked: Did not like the toilet and shower facilities I'm afraid which has put us off returning which is a real shame. If we had our own shower in the campervan we would definitely return.

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked: Plenty of space, good walks, stunning scenery and a great friendly pub up the hill. there was a large adjacent field to exercise my furry companion is needed.
There was one shower and two toilets, but even though most pitches were taken, this was not a problem and no queuing was necessary, a big book swap, dvd and games type room was handy too.

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked: Beautiful countryside setting with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Probably the quietest campsite we’ve ever been to.
So peaceful.
There’s plenty of space between each pitch and most pitches have their own picnic bench. With an adjacent field, it’s ideal for dog walking.
The lovely towns of Ledbury, Great Malvern and Upton on Severn are close enough to visit and the quaint Robin Hood pub and scenic Castlemorton Common are more or less neighbours.
We shall definitely be booking again.

Disliked: Nothing really, except to say that the one and only shower and two toilets were very basic but still perfectly adequate.
We did have a rather nasty, miserable neighbour who would be better off in a field on her own!
Obviously this isn’t the Turbles fault.
You can’t choose your neighbours.

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked: Peace , quiet and space. Great little site with fabulous dog facilities.

Disliked: Whilst the lack of signs telling you not to do this and not to do that was very much appreciated more information about the site would have been useful eg wifi code , which pubs didn’t do food ( the plume of feathers ) and which did not allow dogs inside ( plume of feathers).

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and thank you for your feedback. I have now added a plan of the site to the photo gallery showing the location of CDP, bins and walks from the site. The wi-fi code is shown on the EHUs, however, i will also add this to the whiteboard at the entrance gate and send a confirmation email. Sorry for any confusion but dogs are welcome in The Plume of Feathers. Although i am not currently serving food at the pub i do hope to be serving food soon. I hope to see you again. Regards, Shirley

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked: Peaceful and well spaced fully serviced pitch . Great local area to explore , good value for fully serviced pitch

Disliked: When you arrive , name on a sign with your pitch number, not welcomed or sent any info about site. Had to ask other campers for info about site , directions to local pub and Wi-Fi code, no dog poo bins but loved the large enclosed dog walking area.

Washing up area very poor looked like had not been used for a long time. Toilets unisex but clean

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked: The site was lovely and peaceful, especially at night. The site itself is spacious so you don’t feel on top of other people. Water point at the pitch which was handy for refilling the water barrel easily. A really quick walk to the pub, you can see the site from the gate of the pub so was nice to have it so near.

Disliked: Facilities and lack of information really let this site down which has great potential to be a fab place. We arrived and never saw anyone except other guests for the whole stay. WiFi on site but no info how to access it, there’s stickers on the electric hookups but found this by chance later on. ‘Summerhouse’ for book sharing, watching a film and games should have a health warning, not nice at all. There is also nowhere to wash up as the sink for it is missing the hot tap and has its own wildlife growing in it. Lovely hot shower but only one so can wait a while if busy times. Hard to be critical as the site itself is nice but the facilities really lacking

Local attractions

If it feels like you’ve been at Eastnor Castle (10 minutes’ drive) before, it might be because you recognise it from its appearances in films and TV shows such as Succession. Dating from the early 1800s, this Georgian property has elegant rooms hung with tapestries and portraits, plus a deer park and a lake. The spa town of Great Malvern is anchored by Priory Park, a genteel area with a Victorian bandstand (come on a Sunday afternoon in summer for a free concert), a pond crossed by a wooden bridge and lots of picnic spaces. If you want to sample the local waters, take a (steep) hike to St Ann’s Well, on the eastern slope of the Malverns, just above the town. The gardens at National Trust – Croome (20 minutes) were Capability Brown’s first complete design. Take a stroll around admiring this 18th-century landscape gardener’s work, then head to the RAF Defford Museum to learn about the development of radar technology during World War II.
